View Full Version : Sharp Definition???
Good morning everyone! And a hearty Memorial Day remembering all who served!
Okay in the last week or so I’ve encountered so many degrees of sharp, I don’t know how to classify just how sharp my blades are or can be. In the Sharp Race I’ve seen hair poppin' sharp, crispy sharp, scary sharp, wicked sharp, razor sharp, just plain old sharp in the last week alone.
My question and challenge to you is: Is there an officially agreed on, no nonsense, <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>co or AKTI approved definition of the term sharp and its varying degrees and if not do we have some consensus of terms and definitions of sharp. Awwww! What the heck, if we don’t have any let’s make some new one’s up. <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>
I offer you “eyeball sharp” from the post on the Spyderco vs Custom thread:
A cut beyond hair poppin' crispy fried scary razor sharp. Can depillitate a wart-hog just by looking at it.
Next!

Java,
On the other end of the scale, how about Ed Gruberman-sharp, meaning slightly more dull than a plastic spork, and able to slice hot butter after only 30 minutes of sawing?

Mike!
Good to hear from you! Hope that's not the kind of edge you put on that shiny CoPilot! I'll buy that for a fair definition of dull though. <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> Now if we may continue with our meditation.

Java,
Actually, that Co-pilot came out of the box hair-poppin' sharp! (Bald spots on forearms to prove it).

Everyone seems to have forgotten one level of sharpness: Doughnut! <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> This degree of sharpness, which I have had the distinct misfortune of trying to help correct, makes a Trainer look like a razor blade.
Keepin' it real...real sharp, that is.

Well....
<i><b>Dull</i></b>: Will not cut <i><b>HOT BUTTER</B></I> after remelting the butter again and again... Did that with my Ladybug in a month of no sharpening and over 1,000 boxes....
My personal fav:
<b>MoFo Sharp</b>... aka Mother F*ucking Sharp!
-Achieved on the Calypso jr lt(vg-10).

It <i>Actually Splits Hair</i>. Not just any hair, but robbed my father(50) of some greys after a shower. Took to my model table(20x magnifier) and split it.
I know it was done before with a aus-8 blade, but this is my first time.

Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary is
rather moot on the definition of "sharp" <img src="sad.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>
I like forumite CrazyMoonMan's "crazy sharp"
<img src="tongue.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> as a measure. BTW : What ever became of
him?
So many Spydies, <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> So little money! <img src="sad.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>
