Why were no pics allowed at Blade? This is as public as it gets one of the largest knife gatherings in the world. Everyone else allows pics, to me that is the point of taking a knife to the show in the first place. If I wasn't ready for it to be seen I simply wouldn't take it to the show. The excuse that someone will make a copy doesn't hold watter to me. If they are going to copy it, it will happen one way or the other. The people that do copys were at the show, so they have seen the knife. The collectors and users of the knifes don't care if a copy is out there, it isn't a real spyderco. Sounds to me more like someone is scared prople won't like the knifes and if they don't you don't want pics floating around.

joyce explained this in a post on bladeforums:

Hi All,

Great fun meeting so many of you at Blade! We displayed 40+ new concept and prototypes at the show. As many of you know, concept knives for us are 'an idea in a tangible form' which we show to the public, look for reaction/suggestions and then we may or may-not ever manufacture. It's a way of involving everyone interested in both the R&D and brainstorming process and ultimately making a better product. Prototypes are models we're committed to manufacturing and aim/hope to have in the market within 6 months (tough making that goal consistently as many of you know).

Sorry for the no picture rule....we publicly post pics only of the models we've committed to manufacturing and have scheduled to have in-house within the 6 month time frame (prototypes). In our strange world, we've allowed concept knives to be photographed and then found 'knock offs' produced before we've even decided whether to manufacture the item or not. If you wanna see an R&D guy weep like a hungry baby that's what happens when their designs are made, manufactured and are out creating a profit for someone who had nothing at all to do with their conception.

Studio pics of the new Kiwi, Ronin, Impala, Trakk'r, Anniversary Knife arrive in the next couple weeks and we'll get 'em up and posted for all to peruse.

Thanks! There wouldn't be a Spyderco without your incredible feedback and support. It's appreciated.

I read the post on BF. It just doesn't do it for me. If I for example wanted to copy a prototype and beat spyderco to the punch. There are more than enough tiny cameras that they would never see me take a picture with. I need the pics to keep me interested in what's coming up. True knife nuts aren't know for being paitent people. If I were paintet I'd be collecting customs, but I don't like waiting 6 months for a knife, let alone a pic of one.

Are there pictures of the Paramilitary anywhere, since it is committed, and coming out relatively soon?

I was at the Blade Show. I spent about an hour at the booth. Part of it trying to be talked out my Spyderco EDC. I didn't even see the ParaMil in the case with all of the other knives.

The new Rescue, the ATR, Trakk'r, Pride, etc kept me counting my change and checking the check book.
