Hey guys,

I've been looking at the Shabaria for some time now and was in Atlanta the other day and got to finger diddle one again, for a bit.

Does any one here own one? I never see much discussion on them. I like it alot and see alot of MBC value in them for point down, edge in application, as I have a strong Pekiti-Tirsia background and favor this employment.

Are there any Shabaria owners out there? What are your general impressions of the knife? Also were there any made in a handle material other than Micarta? The one I was playing with in Atlanta had dull black scales that the guy there told me were G-10. I started to argue and say that the Shab was only made with micarta, but I shut up as this one did look a bit duller in color than some of the other ones I've played with. Could be just me as I haven't played with one in a while.

Thanks

I have three of them (one first generation Pinned handle) And both of the newer version. I like them alot even though they are not mbc rated.

A wise man once told me: We all operate on different levels of perfection!

Your right. The Shabaria was only made in micarta. I have 2 old style myself.
I think it would work as a MBC blade, except for the liner lock. In a point down, edge in grip you might release the lock. You could probably grind the liner down alittle so it would be harder to disengage. Other than that, go for it. It is a great design, the curves fit well in a tight grip. The bottom can be used for blunt strikes, you can grip farther back on the handle for more reach in a whip-cut. Just a nice knife.

SouthNarc,
The above replies are all correct regards the C59BM Shabaria. The 50/50 blade model, C59BMPS has been discontinued so if that's the one you want and find it at your favorite dealer - buy it!
We have them on closeout as well.

Thanks guys I appreciate the replies. After handling one again in Atlanta I really think this knife has alot to offer. If Sal made it in a compression lock it would really rock.

If you think about the curvature of that blade and then an insertion and tear out at close quarter (grapple range, it's not a dueler) along with the possibilities for limb manipulation, it's really trick! I know it wasn't meant for MBC, but before Spydies were "rated" as such we all just used regular 'ol knives.

I think this one has alot of merit for the way I intend to use it.

It might rock with a "compression lock", just
as long as it's "tip down" carry that damn
lock system lets the blade work loose in "tip
up" modality!
