My first Tread on this forum.
Bought 2 knifes fast on Swedish ebay, got them yesterday and saw directly that they were fakes ( bad material, fiting, finish). They got the spyderco bug, Seki text, on them so they are really fakes.

Now ive just emailed the seller about this and waiting for a answer.

the pics of the fakes are attached.
how do I insert a picture?

Yep, they're definitely two of the most common fakes.

If the listings claimed they were Spyderco knives, the seller does not volunteer a full refund, and you paid via PayPal, they might consider it a reason for refund since the "merchandise was not as described". Again, depending on how they were described in the listing, negative feedback with comments warning that the seller deals in counterfeit goods might also be reasonable.

Oh man, I would file a complaint with PayPal to get your funds returned.

Those fakes, especially variations on the Pollywog, have been seen before. Several of us Spyderco collectors and fans scan eBay for them and report them to eBay and let the seller know they have a fake or counterfeit knife.

Hi Swarovski,

Welcome to the Spyderco forum.

Sorry for your negative experience. It is a problem for us worldwide. We're fighting it, but legal activity in China is challenging.

That really stinks. I hope you get your money returned. I hope you have a better experience with your next Spydie.

salI'm sure it is Sal. If the "100,000 pound gorillas" like Microsoft and Disney have not been able to effectively stop the counterfeiting of their products, "little guys" like Spyderco have a really tough fight on their hands.

And, not to trivialize the impact on anyone's business these fakes can have, but some of the things they counterfeit can do far more harm to the ELU. I'm sure there are worse, but the most disturbing ones I've read of recently are counterfeits of name brand GFCI and AFCI circuit breakers and GFI outlets.

Thanks for the welcoming.

Its no big deal with the fakes Ive bought, what pisses me of is the atitude of the seller wont take the knifes back, and stopped answering my mail. So now hes going to have bad feedback on the Swedish ebay.

but now Iam waiting on a Sage 2 from US so Iam happy again

Hi Swarovski,

Sorry for your disappointing experience. It is sad that in these modern days, the high volume of dishonest people throughout the world is discouraging. Long term effects are sure to change our way of thinking. I guess that the best we can do is by trying to influence; "want a better world, be a better person", sort of thing.

I know these are fakes and everything, but I find it kind of interesting the thoughts that went through the makers head when he/she built them. But it's still pretty bad that the seller wont respond to your emails.

As much as I hate the US patent system sometimes (especially in regards to software), when I look at all the KIRFs coming from China I feel like the US has the best of the worst options available. At least there are laws to protect companies from having their product copied and sold under false pretenses.

I once bought a PS3 Dualshock 3 Controller on eBay. It was the most impressive counterfeit product I had ever seen. It had the instruction manuals, packaging, etc. The seller claimed he bought it from Radioshack, but as im sure everyone knows that's impossible.

People either sell a lot of them and make a living on scamming people, or they were dumb enough to buy one and are selfishly trying to pass their mistake on to someone else.

Sorry to hear about your trouble, hope you are able to get it resolved and refunded. If you are not able to get your money back please don't put them back into the secondary market. Just toss them in the trash where they belong.

I almost hate to admit this.Last week I saw a Spyderco knife on ebay listed as a Spyderco Clone. I saw Golden Colorado Earth USA S30V or such on the blade. The seller said he could not find the exact model but it was very similar to a Spyderco UK penknife.Black G10 slip it with a S30V 3 inch blade. It was used but looked good.Thought I would buy it NOW instead of a Spyderco slipit Squeak later because I just bought a waved Delica (gift for friend) and a waved Endura for myself. I bidded on the knife with a few minutes to spare.I WON ha ha.It was right at $35.00 after shipping.Good deal my silly ass thought. Then I searched for a Spyderco Clone review.I THOUGHT it was a real Spyderco just smaller or bigger or different steel or lock or g10 color etc.I found out it was a crap fake POS.Clone?I felt stupid but told the seller I misunderstood the description and did not want the knife and payed only $5.00 for his inconvenience. He called it a Spyderco Clone and I still almost bought it.Luckily he refunded my money(I told him to keep $5 because it was my fault).Other people bid on it too.I thought it was an older or rare model.I mean Spyderco makes knives called Dodos,Cat,Ladybug and Stretch and Poliwog many other unusual names.Still feel retarded that the Spyder addiction got to ME.Im intelligent.Haste makes waste.S30V Spyderco for $35.00 was too good to pass up.I was lucky and a lesson was learned.Next month I will get that cute little Squeak. Then a Spyderhawk maybe.I will do my homework before I ever bid on a knife again. It was a US seller and was only up for sale for a day but I STILL beat myself up for the what ifs. It is so wrong a fake/clone can end up on Ebay.

Very well said, Sal. The best safeguard against this type of thing is a solid ethical foundation, and a sense of empathy for your fellow man. It is very sad that there are so many people out there who are willing to exploit people for personal gain. And I think that often one act perpetuates other--kind of a "they screwed me over, so why shouldn't I screw over someone else?" rationale. People may think the "Golden Rule" is a cliche, but I would like to see it taught more to children--after all, imagining how you would feel if you were someone else is the essence of empathy.

Very sorry to hear about those who were ripped off.

Oh, and Deacon--counterfeit circuit breakers!? Wow, that is frightening. The things people will do for money...
