Hey all, I'm considering buying a new spyderco, my 7th, and i've narrowed it down to two. A plain-edge merlin, or a FRN plain edge delica (blue). Which ever one I choose, it will be carried mostly for self-defense, as I use my ladybug for most daily cutting chores. I would apprieciate it if anyone could advise me of the advantages and disadvantages to each one. Thanks.

Hey mike :

I got into this re : PE Merlin on my thread
"PE Merlin for self defense"; some good input from forumite(s) there. Myself I now
have a SE Merlin which, in my opinion would fit the self defense bill. Hawkbills are, however, limited as far as good defensive applications go, and you'd probably be better served with the FRN PE Delica (blue)
Tell ya' what : Glasshartt can get you one
for $45.50ppd ; she's a respected member of this forum & Law Enforcement Distributor but sells to forumite(s) e-mail her :

Addendum :

You might want to check out my thread on Bladeforums.com regarding hawkbills, some good input there with regards the limitations of the hawkbill. My need is for
Utility/self defense, not self defense solely, which is why I'd say go with the PE
Delica. If you want the "fear factor" the
Merlin has it in spades!( especially with SE) but I think you'd be wise to go with the Delica PE. GlassHartt (Linda) can get you a sweet deal on that, or, if it must be the Merlin PE, she can do that too ($50.50ppd) What do the rest of you forumites say?
