Who here carries/uses a SC01 Spydercard?

I am going away for 7 weeks, starting next weekend. Due to the fact that it is on a military base(I'm in Air Cadets), and we fly for part of our travel(no detectors though)... we are not to have any knives.



I am one of those people who have a hard time going 1 week without a knife, nevermind 7 weeks. I'm considering picking up a spydercard this week for the summer. I know I'll have no problems putting in my wallet and not handling it till I get to my destination.



What is the opinion on these tools?

I carry a plain edge version that I sent off to bodycote and ahd coated with boron carbide. I had a minor problem with spots of rust appearing. No rust since the coating. You should contact them if you get one and have them coat it. This knife also gets very sharp. Once broken in it opens very quickly.

I don't need a quick opening... I just know I'll need a knife sometime during my 7 weeks, and want something. I'll have my wallet with me 24/7, but my pockets might get emptyed for sports or... I could carry a ladybug(have one, on keys) , but it'd fall out if loose.

I've carried my supersharp &lt;img src=&quot;spyder.gif&quot; width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0&gt;card 50/50 in my wallet for the past several weeks. I haven't had the need to use it yet, mainly because I always carry a primary and backup EDC with me anywhere I go. My Marine Tuf-Cloth protects it from rust, while Tuf-Glide lubricates and protects the pivot.

It is comforting to know that I have this Spydie with me, just in case I forget my EDCs(leaving home without a knife...yeah, right).

I highly recommend the Spydercard.<img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

I've carried a 50-50 version in my wallet for the past couple of years....... don't even know its there. I've had no problem with oxidization or weight. I've only to use it a couple of times, and it's nice to know it's there when needed.

I can vouch for the Spydercard 100%. Being my first Spyderco ever doesn't have anything to do with it either, I promise.<img src="tongue.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> I got mine in 50/50 edge, so I would have the best of both worlds if the need for a back-up knife was ever called for.

50/50 in the wallet, and one in the checkbook cover. Never know they're there but it adds a nice weight to them that reminds me. Definitely do the Tuff-Cloth or Marine-Cloth. I don't know why but &lt;img src=&quot;spyder.gif&quot; width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0&gt;cards are prone to rust. It may be the steel or the warm humid storage area, or both.

Spend a little time with the Ladybug or Cricket or Dragonfly and get used to carrying them down inside the pocket. You can saftey pin them to the inside of your pocket if need be. You'll find a way that fits for you to carry a small &lt;img src=&quot;spyder.gif&quot; width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0&gt; that others won't see.

And I STRONGLY advise, if there is a chance you may have to go through a metal detector DO NOT chance it. The price is likely to be too high. Find a way to get the &lt;img src=&quot;spyder.gif&quot; width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0&gt; to yourself at your destination.

I went through boot with a Victorinox the whole time and that was a strick no-no. Prepared people will find a way.

steel toed boots, metal buckle, metal cap brass...

they can't make ALL of us strip to go through.

I carry a Spydercard everyday in my wallet. THE BIG QUESTION IS - Why are you risking a court marshall over a knife. rico

I like the concept and design of the SpyderCard; however, I find it too heavy for my liking as an EDwalletC. A titanium (or almite) handle version with a VG-10 blade would be nice.

As an alternative, you might want to check out the UtiliKey (I think that's what it's called). It's a tool that looks like a key and is carried on your keyring but has a sharpened blade and screwdriver integrated into its design.

It's sad that it's come to a point where upright citizens on quasi-military functions are no longer allowed even simple pocket knives. Don't Air Cadets help in search and rescue missions? I survival knife should be standard equipment for you guy/gals.

I already have the Utilikey, since xmas '01...

I have done a knife gift with a friend for 4 years so far... I bought him a Ladybug this year, and he bought me the utilikey... carry it at school anyways. Doesn't raise too many eyebrows when I pull my keys out.

I will be carrying my keys, with:
SwissTech Utilikey
Buck Mini-tool

but want something else.

I agree with the advice not to carry any knives. Just buy one when you get to wherever you're going.

Anyway, the SpyderCard. I like it a lot. Keep in mind the #1 design criterion was the form factor, so don't expect it to be as ergonomic as your Wegner. Anyway, what I like most is how carryable it is. I don't carry it in my wallet, which it makes too thick and heavy. But the Spydercard can be carried by itself, in both front or back pockets, incredibly comfortably. Because it's flat and rectangular, in loose pockets it's actually more comfortable than much smaller and lighter knives.

Working-wise, it's incredibly sharp, with a good sharp point. Ergonomics are obviously not great, but it ends up working fine as lighter-duty knife (anything you don't need superior handle security for). It was my primary knife for my vacation a couple of years ago, and did great for all cutting chores, including food prep.

Despite being 6A, the bead blast finish makes it somewhat prone to rusting.
