I thought that I'd share this with you Spyderco fans cos you'd understand.

Well a few months ago I was preparing a meal in the kitchen and I was chopping some veggies with my lovely linen micarta handled Spyderco chefs knife. It's as sharp as a razor with its VG10 steel and there's a whole lot of blade there. Unfortunately I bumped it when I turned to wash my hands in the sink.

- Cut to Matrix style "bullet time" - I watched it fall off the counter tip first down onto my hard kitchen floor. I really didnt want the tip to be snapped off so I stuck my foot out to break its fall and hopefully cushion it and prevent any damage (to the knife!).

The spine of the blade hit the top of my foot as it arked down and it flipped forward and dropped gently to the floor.

Phew...no damage to the tip! As I bent down to pick up the knife I felt some pain in my toe. Looked down....hole in my sock. Uh oh.

Oh taking my sock off, I found that half the toe nail had been cut clean off including some of my toe - which decided to bleed!! Profusely.

I immediately called my wife to tell her and I found it rather funny....apart from the pain! Luckily I didnt have to be dragged to the A&E as I thought and after a few days of limping around, I was fine and after a few months, my toe healed.

And hey...my Spyderco Chef's knife is still in great shape!! <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Moral of the story....get a soft floor covering for your kitchen!

WoooWho!!

NOW that is a dedicated &lt;img src=&quot;spyder.gif&quot; width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0&gt;FAN!
You can always grow a new toe nail but each &lt;img src=&quot;spyder.gif&quot; width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0&gt; is precious.

PS. My toe hurts in sympathy.

KennyBoy,

This brings to mind a &quot;law&quot; (like those &quot;murphy's laws&quot<img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>. Here it is...

&quot;The amount of destruction caused by the attempt to rescue a falling object is directly proportional to the effort expended to do so and is generally more than that caused if the object were allowed to fall in the first place.&quot;

When it's a <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> it's best to let the knife fall than to attempt to rescue it <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Have a nice day.

I might also advice you to let it fall, except that I'd have done the same thing. Damaging my spidie... now THAT would hurt.

GUY'S Hear me. Cost of replacing Spyderco Knife less than $100.00. Pain, suffering and hospital expenses $more than you can imagine. Moral of this - Drop a knife, jump back to save a life.. HA HA HA

Well I told my dad about this story and he said that he did the same thing in the kitchen - he's a chef! He said that it must either be a guy thing or something I inherited from him.... <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

im sure you are all familiar with &quot;the move&quot; you know when you drop a knife and shoot your feet backward? like doing the bunny hop backwards and drunk.
