Hello, I am curious about how good the progrip knife is with the 40/60 blade and the stainless handle, this is my first "real" knife and alot of people have told me to get a spyderco. Thank you for all your info.

Progrip is probably one of the most under- rated knives in the Spyderco line. Good work knife; also uses Spyderco Hunter blade design; however, new plain edge blade model would probably make a better skinner. With rubber inserts in pocket clip & handle, the Progrip sticks better in the pocket - making harder to lose; but a little harder to retrieve.

Hi Hyperviper. Welcome to the Spyderco forum.

The Pro-Grips are among our most consistant sellers. They will be getting a change in the amount of serration in the near future (less teeth). There is also a plain edge version either already in or on the way.

As OlDawg said (thanx) it is a very underated model. I don't think you would be unhappy with the model.

Hi Sal, according to your post in 2000 you said that the amount of teeth on the progrip will be reduced; have you already done this or is it still a future plan? An ideal edge for me would be an 80/20% plain/serrated. The serrated for the times when I would like to sink a few teeth for cutting rope. I would love an update on this topic. -thxs -aarenb

Hello aarenb,

Welcome to the Forum. The change has been made. It used to be 40/60 (PE/SE) now it's 60/40. Great little working knife, BTW.

Learn from other people's mistakes, life isn't long enough to make them all yourself.

Welcome to the Forum. Though the Progrip is not among my favorites (because of the shape, not the performance), I welcome those Kraton inserts. They could be nice and useful too at the SPOT, IMO.

AAren,

One thing about the SS Progrip, it really stays where you clip it. My other half regularly carries his while horseback riding and it has never worked it's way out of his pocket.

Hello Hyperviper,

This is a topic near and dear to me. I have had a pro-venator for a while, and love it. I particularly like the blade shape, and the knife seems substantial as it is "heavy". I'm very partial to SS handles anyway.

I recently got a G-2 Progrip and it's bigger than the Provenator. I love it even more, except for the rubber on the clip. Like Linda says, it makes it stay put, but its hard to put it there in the first place. I think I'm gonna change it to a plain stainless clip.

I have a new VG-10 progrip on the way, and can't wait. My G-2 is 40/60 PE/SE, interested to see of the new one is 60/40.

I can't imagine you would not love this knife, (whether you like the clip or not.)

My other sometimes EDC is a G-10 Navigator SE. I just love the way it feels...
