I got a Vesuvius a couple of weeks ago.It had alot of blade play in all directions.I just got out my forum model witch I have not carried but once.Gave it a light wack on the spine and it failed badly.I'm talking about 3 to 4 lbs pressure.Hate to send it back,it is mostly a collectors piece but hate to keep one around that has a major problem. Can some of you check your forum models and see if you have any problem?

I didnot think much of the compression lock when I first saw it and I really don't like it now.

Mine has an extremely tight lock up and no blade play as far as I can tell.

Hmmm, that is really strange. I checked mine out, and it also has a soild lock-up. (I really don't care for the compression lock on this model either, as it is rather difficult to disingage the lock with your thumb/finger.) My thoughts are to recess the dent in the handle to give your thumb more purchase on the liner so you can release it easier. Oh well...that's why they have an R&D department.

Hey Jeff, I hope you get that problem figured out. If I were you, I'd send it in to the SFO and let them play with it. I have a Centofante that has the same problem, and I just sent it back yesterday for the second time for a little rework.

Good luck!

Jeff ~ I've had probs with mine too, but adjusted it myself. It now unlocks easier but still a ridiculous amount of blade wobble.... With almost the same money I could have bought another solid, classic, no nonsense, G-10 Police...aye.:o/

Have you got one yet?

This really is strange. My wife has a Vesuvius and it works perfectly. Maybe those guys at should see yours and fix it.

I have three Vesuvius and they all lock up sloid. I have not used the Forum model except to open a few times. The one that has seen the most use is the loosest opening Sypderco I have. You can just flick it and it flies open. No blade play but it makes me wonder if it is too loose and could open in my pocket. I don't carry it much but overall I really like the feel of this knife. I think it is a real sleeper in the Spydie lineup.

Not got a G10 police yet but would like one in flat grind PE.I might but my forum model up on bladeforums to see if anyone that missed out on them wants to trade.Sal said in a post over there that if anyone was unhappy with them they could return them.

Jeff,

#231 is OK, but #232 is wobbly. Both did OK on the wack test though.

I think I am holding it to tight if I loosen my grip a little it does not do it.The blade itself is is tight with no movement.

As opposed to being loose my forum Vesuvius was a little tight. But I didn't mibd as it gave me an excuse to practice a couple hundred openins with it to bed it in just right

Jeff,

I just got my Vesuvius (50/50 blade w/ inset) two days ago. The lockup on mine is nice and tight. I never thought I'd find myself saying this about a plastic handled knife, but I think this may be my new EDC.

I have it on Blade forums up for trade. If I have no takers I am going to send it back for exchange.I am thinking with it being the Forum knife and only 500 produced some one will want to trade for it.

I tested our non-forum model thuroghly, includeing a spine whack test. It has a very strong lock up, with no movement whatsoever. Hey 200th post, yehh! RKBA!

After getting a dud Vesuvius from Lady Glasshartt, I was seriously thinking twice about my choice for the Vesuvius as being my next Spydie.

But, Linda quickly sent out another Vesuvius to me and, lo' and behold, this one is numbered!! This Vesuvius has a solid lockup on the blade with no play at all. My new Spydie is definitely not a dud, and with it being numbered too, it is definitely a keeper.
