Was just looking at my Navigator.I think there is enough room to put one on the spacer inside the handle to the back. There is a space between the blade and spacer when the knife is closed. The light should show through the slots nicely.

I think I asked this before... What's the use of them?

The biggest thing it would be good for is if you lay you knife down in low light you can find it very easally.Plus that light blue glow would look very cool.

Dialex,
The glowrings are multipurpose gizmos that glow for something like 10 years straight. I keep mine on my keyring to find them in the dark. I've also used it on my flashlight/knife rig for the same purpose.

Would somebody take a picture and post it. I am curious as to how this looks and works. I have heard of people placing tritium vials in the back spacer of a millie. It sounds pretty cool and would be good for finding where you dropped your knife in the dark or help you find your blade quickly late at night in case of an emergency.

Though they emit only very low levels of radiation, I think it is wise not to carry tritium based light sources in your pants pocket if you are planning on having children in the future. It is claimed to be safe, but in my view even small risks to the genetic health of future children are best avoided. I worked with radioactive materials some in school, and in my experience most radiation safety experts agree with this assesment. Edited to add that having said that, it does sound very cool!!!

Anybody have a link of where to get some more information on these things. I agree they would be pretty neat in the liner of a folder (especially a Navigator), but how would you get it to stay in there.... and I would want to know a bit more about the radiation emmission prior to purchase.
One other thing.... If you are going to remove it from its "protective case" be very careful. I'm an environmental consultant and our company did a cleanup a few years ago on an exit sign containing tritium gas that was broken by an angry occupant of the building we were working in. No one luckily got sick from exposure, but the cleanup on a single exit sign ran amost 1/2 million dollars!
So a little bit of tritium can do alot of damage. If that's the engery source in these things.

Search on ebay for Glow ring.
I have been told that they have only minut amount of tritium and the viele blocks most of the very small amount of radiation that they give off.I am sure that a Luminox watch has more in it than the one viele in the glow ring.I will post a pic of the Navigator when I get it installed.I plan on useing E6000 selant in a couple of very small drops to hold it in.

Whoa!!
I went to ebay to see what this glow ring thing is all about, and man I'm telling you, we're not in Kansas anymore! Talk about being concerned about having one of them in your pocket? Heck, the only glow rings I saw on ebay are ones apparently intended to be impaled in various parts of the human body.
Kinda makes having one adorn your knife seem mild. <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Some radiation info for those interested (from my nuclear engineering background):
The glowrings contain tritium. It is a pure beta emitter. Beta paticles cannot even penetrate a layer of dead skin. The danger from Tritium comes from ingestion (swallowing) or absorption of Tritium through the skin. The beta particles from a Tritium decay within the body can in fact damage cells and cause heath problems.
I would not worry about carrying a knife with a glowring any more than I worry about wearing my Luminox watch everyday. However, I would be careful when working with the glowrings.
I hope this helps and sorry to get so technical and boring you all to sleep.

firediver> it's better to be informed than make a wild guess. Good info, thanks.
Jeff> let us know how it turns out
does anyone know who it was that already did this on thier millie? sounds interesting and might have to check out prices.

firediver,
My last post didn't really come off the way I wanted. You are correct, the tritium vials are pretty safe, but when trying to work with them be very careful not to break open the vial and exposing yourself directly to tritium gas. If inhaled or ingested, you could be looking at some problems.

Got it today. The viele looks like it will work.Very easy to get out of the holder,it is in a hollow space and not glued in.I can see that it moves up and down a little in the holder.Stay tuned in.

Sounds pretty cool. Maybe those guys at <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> could consider making some glowing bugs and embedding them in the handles <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Ah, good ol' Hydrogen-3! Don't worry about the stuff hurting you via luminescence, it's harmless. A sheet of paper can stop beta radiation, or a layer of dead skin, as firediver mentioned.
Now, marking your <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> with Uranium-235 may be a problem...<img src="tongue.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Anyone have a source for the Krill lights in the USA? All the places I found were in England... which is fine, but I hate to call! :-)
Thanks....

Well I finally got around to it.Bad news, the viele is to thick to fit between the scales.

Jeff, but it'll fit in the millie right?
If I knew what size the torx was for the back spacer on the c36, I'd take it off your hands and try it on my millie. Think I know what do to... just a question of how to drill through the g-10(and whatever plastic is in the spacer).

Yeah,it will have no problem fitting the Milli.I was looking at that today.I just hate to start drilling without knowing exactlly what I doing.I am trying to think of a way to mount it between the scales behind the spacer.

I don't know if they're still sold this way, but in 1982 (yes that's eighty two) I picked up one of these small tritium filled vials that I guess are now used in glowrings. A slim glass cylinder about 1 inch long and maybe 1/10th diameter they were sold to anglers for freshwater fishing at night. The vial could be fixed to the tip of the rod or to a float to show up when the fish were biting. I epoxied it to a magnetic compass I always carry when hiking - makes it easier to read in the dark since the luminous markers don't always get a good charge during the day. it's still going twenty years on !
