I want to get my sister who is an artist a Spyderco knife. She is moving to Laguna Beach and I envision her walking the beach picking up a piece of driftwood and carving everything she sees in the ocean. Unfortunately, I also envision her succuming to the forces of the ocean and dropping everything to catch a wave body surfing. And with that wave goes her new Spyderco knife. Therefore, I would like to spend under a hundred dollars for this knife. Which knife do you recommend I buy?

Something with a metal clip so it can adjusted to grip tight. I would say a ltwt Calypso in plain edge.

A light weight Native would also work, and the clip can be switched for left or right use. The CPM440V steel is superior for edge retention and the grip is very secure and ergonomic. I would recommend the plain edge for carving.

Hi Pz. Welcome to the Spyderco forum.

I'd have to agree with Blades. the VG10 offers better corrossion resistance than the CPM440V. Laguna Beach is pretty humid.

This breaks your budget but I would splurge and get her the new Lum Chinese folder. With a beauty like that, she'll make a point of keeping it safe. :-)
