I got my Cranberry Salsa in the mail yesterday. It says "Taipei Taiwan" on the blade. This is the first Spydie I have seen that was not made in Seki City Japan or in Golden Colorado. Is this normal for the Salsa? Are any other made in Taiwan?

I kind of feel the same way about staying away from any made in Taiwan. I really like the Salsa and it looks good even so.
You'll be missing a great knife, especially the Ti variant, if you stay away.
Can't speak for the other Salsa's, but the fit n' finish on the Ti Salsa is excelent.

I am also reluctant when I hear about knives made in Taiwan. Maybe that will mean cheaper spidies, but it could also mean that the spidies won't be the same.

Sal said that they choose only manufacturers that live up to Spyderco standards.

well, the Taiwanese aren't that bad.. Manu BIG boys in the knife manufacturing industry have turned to Mainland China to produce their knives..

That's reassuring. I know Spyderco takes pride in their product and would not sacrifice the quality they have built their reputation with. I was just surprised to see Taiwan on a spydie after seeing only Seki City or Golden Colorado for so many years.

As I understand it, Sal chose this Taiwanese manuf for this knife because he was certain that this place could put out a quality product, which the Salsa has certainly shown itself to be.
I picked up one of the first batch of green Salsas and except for the small problem with a slightly too large belly (which has since been corrected), it's a GREAT big small knife. I have since replaced it, in my daily rotation with a Ti Salsa - _very_ nice knife.
Don't let the fact that the Salsa is made by a Taiwanese manuf color your opinion of the knife. Go and handle it for yourself, and you shall soon see how great a knife it is.
Also, I believe Sal mentioned something about the Sals being a test for this manuf and if they were successful, more knives will be coming from them.

nomaded greetings from across the border (salem,NH). I can only agree with all of you on the Ti Salsa. I've been carrying it at work since the first batch was available to the public. It is built very well. And performs very well. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one. I may even have forumite Ted checking one out, and he just got his Sebenza

I don't know about you guys (no offense, you gals too! ). Have you noticed that despite the size of you hand, big or small, the Salsa still fits nice? Just a suggestion, put one in the hand. Taiwan put out a nice little model!

When I first saw pictures of the Salsa, I kinda wrote it off, it's looked small, and the pepper with Salsa writen in it looked pretty lame. I figured it was Spyderco's attempt to market knives to the "non-knife" crowd. Then I went to the knife shope, and handled one. It realy fits your hand well, and looks to be very well made, it's much bigger than it looks in pictures. bit still small enough to be non-thretening.
I like the colors, but I'm still not fond of the pepper on the side, so I have a ti model on order, can't wait for it to get here.
I also like the cobra hood, not so much for opening, but as a place to put your thumb while cutting.
