It would depend on what you are looking to hunt with the knife.

I'd say your best choices are:
Wegner large, discontinued...
Moran Drop Point... relatively cheap at $95 @ SFO, and both light and strong.

The large Wegner is awesome for sure. the Spyderco Moran would be excellent if you are looking for a fixed blade.

Spyderco has a new model, called the Impala, that just hit the market. There are two versions available, one with a guthook and one without.

I have no personal experience with the Impala, but it was designed as a hunting knife.

The Impala is the knife. There's also that much smaller alternative, the Mouse, which could make for a great skinner - or so they claim <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>.

Hi ehhhhhhh...Flaming...,
I would say the Wegner for sure!
Haven&#180;t tried the Impala, but it looks up mto the job.
The chinook I wouldn&#180;t use for hunting unless nothing else is around, or the gamre is war<img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Hi FF and welcome also, in a fixed blade i'd go with the Moran drop point, altho i bought the skinner for the simple reason in my hunting club we do alot of just skin cut and process.

In a folder the Pro Grip Ltw PE looks like a very good choice if you can't locate a Wegner.

Have no experince with the Impala but it was created specifly for hunting and processing of big game animals, and i'm sure it's well up to the task, in the long run it's more what you like and have the cash to buy.

Check Mrs Linda if you dont have a local dealer close, she has the best prices around. Ron

get a Native by all means. Get the USA made Native in either PE, or PS. Super fantastic knive. The G10 Inlay Native is a collector piece and only 500 made. JJ has some left at $80.00. now you know what to ask for for the big holiday(can we say that anymore and be PC?).

My favorite, hands down, is the Wegner. A shame it had to be discontinued.

I am also very sad thatv the Wegner was discontinued. <img src="sad.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> My favorite production knife by far. I was hoping to see an updated version with all screw construction, compression lock, and VG-10.

I have an Impala on the way. I'll see how it compares.

FF - The native is a great EDC knife. My FRN PE has been in my EDC rotation for a while now and I can't say enough about it... of course I can't say enough about Spydies in general, so I supose I might be considered biased. <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0><img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0><img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>.
GlassHartt has the FRNs at $47.00, email her GlassHartt@aol.com for info.

103 - Can I safely assume that you actually like the Native???? <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0><img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0><img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Outdoor America shows 3 Wegner plain and 3 partially serrated in their inventory. Think they are liquidating knives. I may buy another Wegner since they are being discontinued. Their price is $74.40 each.

A Spyderco Native would make an excellent EDC. If you can spring for it try and get the more expensive G-10 version. The FRN model would be my second choice, and plain edge would be my preference.

No matter how appealing the price might seem, I would strongly recommend NOT getting a BRK-Spyderco 1st Generation Native. They were an early experiment where Spyderco tried to share some of the manufacturing with a different company. The BRK version is not available through Spyderco and from what I hear of their low quality there is a good reason Spyderco wouldn't touch them.

Walk softly, carry a big stick.
