Happy New Year folks,

I was given my first spyderco this past Christmas, a Dragonfly II, And I AM IN LOVE! It is by far the best performing knife I have ever seen, especially for its size. As a new Spyderco owner I am finding out what I'm sure you all already know, that ya can't own just one spydie! I'm leaning towards purchasing the Native II next, and I was wondering what some of your opinions were on this model. How does the Native II's AUS-10 blade stteel compare with the ATS-55 of the Endura/Dragonfly? As I am a youngin' to Spyderco some feedback would be great in my edge-u-cation.

Many thanks,

Mac

Hi Mac. Welcome to the Spyderco forum. We're pleased that you are enjoying your new knife. The Dragonfly is one of our more popular models.

All of our models will be good quality. the differences will be more in your preferences for design, size or particular materials.

As you use the different models, you will develop those prefeences.

Greetings,
And welcome to the forum. You're advancing fast into spyderdom. The nativeII is an excellent piece. It has a good feel, and a strong lock.Although a little slippery for certain tasks due to the SS handles,if it will be for everyday might I suggest an frn native with cpm440v steel, holds an edge for a long, long time,a little lighter in the pocket and a wonderful gripping pattern, and tough as they come in a small/medium peice.Enjoy

Someday my friends,I'll own em all!!!

Thanks for the warm welcome gentlemen...what's that old addage? Oh yeah, "ask the experienced, not the learned." Thanks also for the great advice guys. I agree Sal, that the wider variety of models I handle will help me recognize my own preferences. However I still find it helpful to pick up tips from those who have been at something longer than I have; this forum is a great idea. Also thanks to Whosyour, you bring up a good point about the no-slip attributes of a frn handle. I noticed this when I handled a Delica lightweight (Oh, hang on, let me write that down on next year's Christmas list). One thing I liked about the SS handle on the Dragonfly was that the added heft felt very agreeable in my hand. Although I can certainly see how a SS handle might be too slippery for field use, especially with gloved hands. So, it seems there is only one thing to do. I'm just gonna have to go get both Native models, one for the field, and one for eveningwear!
Thanks again,
Mac
