View Full Version : my Lum's pocket clip, and rust...

Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem, as I have only seen this with my Lum Ti. Pulled it from the drawer this morning to look over it, and saw some crud on the pocket clip. Made a quick swipe with a rag, and they didn't come off. On closer inspection, it was rust! About 10-15 specks interspersed. Went over the knife, and saw a few more on the steel liner on the back of the handle. Hadn't even thought of wiping these parts down with my Tuf, as I assumed they were stainless steel. Went over the rest of my knives, and didn't notice anything abnormal in these areas. I had thought that the stainless steel used on the non-blade areas of the knife would have less carbon, making it more stainless. I had been thinking about taking a 50 cal box and making a knife safe out of it, and looks like I'm gonna jump on it. I just hadn't expected this to happen to the clip, of all things. Anybody else have this?

I like my method of getting dessicant. It's a bit tastier than paying for it! <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Just buy a bag of beef jerky-basically any brand. Since jerky has to be dry, there's always a little bag in the bottom. It's harmless in the bag, just microwave it to dry it out.

Put the dessicant in the box, and microwave it every once in a while. <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Never underestimate the impossible.

Stainless steel will stain less, but is not stain proof. I use Simichrome to remove light rust, with some steel wool if necessary. I prevent rust with Sentry Solution products.

Browad,

2 possible solutions:
1) A swipe of Flitz usually takes off rust
2) Leave Florida!! Too humid.

use a pencil eraser to remove the light rust. Then a light spray of WD-40,or 3-in-1 oil.
