Does any one happen to know when Spyderco stoped making the plain edge version of this great knife? This is true classic Spyderco which I have always admired but now when I am ready to afford one I can only find the serraded edged one for sale. Has any one seen them for sale anywhere? Thanks

I agree that the plain edge Worker is a great looking knife, much nicer IMO than the serrated version. I keep meaning to clean mine up (sorry, it was a gift, not for sale ) and have it engraved for one of my daughters. Might have to do it soon to stop them fighting about who's going to inherit the Moki Evrina .

I'll try my signature again, nope no luck .

The C01 Worker came out in 1981, first in a Plainedge and then a SpyderEdge configuration. We stopped making the Plainedged version in 1995. I haven't seen the C01P for sale anywhere qc but I'll keep my eyes open.

I am carrying my Plain Edge Worker today. It is the old model without the beveled edges on the handle. I love it.

I also carry a plainedge worker every day. It is my classic all-time favorite knife. I also have a serrated worker, but I prefer the plain edge. You guys at Spyderco should really consider making the plainedge version again. I have a friend who got his stolen and he hasn't been the same since....

The Worker never interested me until I saw a picture of the plain edge version in the Spyderco book. It took two months of seaching on the web and at knife stores before I found one to buy. Bladeforums' Individual Sales Section and Ebay were the only places found that had the Worker for sale at some point and time recently. I finally purchased one on Ebay and received it last week. The Spyderco book calls the Worker a solution and a classic, and I agree.

I saw some plain-edged C01s being sold on AG Russel's "Cutting Edge" Feb issue magazine. About US$115 a pop - numbered with zippered casing... Pricey but I guess its worth it!

Thanks for the Workers Ferret. I will soon have 3 plain edge workers (not including the one in my Evolution set).

Also, did you know that Spyderco will soon be discontinuing the Worker? Sal told me at the Blade Show. I really hate that!

Spyderco discontinuing the Worker upsets me. I understand the sales were low, and that means people weren't buying this great design. I have gone through a lot of Spydercos. For some reason I keep coming back to the classics like the Standard, the Worker, the Police, and the Dragonfly. These models don't have all the tactical bells and whistles that some of the high speed ELU seem to want, but they do offer the one thing you can't pay enough for: reliability. The lockbacks are simple, but strong and ambidextrous. If you don't pry with them they will last forever. Blah, blah, blah; I'm preaching to the choir. I just wish more people appreciated some of the orginals like the Worker and the Standard so they wouldn't be discontinued.

I remember something being mentioned, either via bladeforums or by someone at SFO, that plainedge Workers would be made for the final run of these knives. Any truth or just a bad rumor?

Workers willbe discontinued for 2001. We are making a "special run" to commemorate the 20 year run of the knife that literally changed the way the world made knives.

Sal, will any of the knives in this "special run" be plain edged? (gosh I sure hope so...)

I am the guy "who hasn't been the same since" when my Worker plain-edge was stolen. I deeply miss it and plan to buy a used one for likely 3 times what was paid for the first(a gift from my father). I carry a serrated worker every day and use it at least once a day opening boxes, cutting weeds or flowers, rope, sticks for marshmallow roasting, etc. While the worker is great for many things, it can't replace my plain-edge worker. For instance: someone asks about what you have clipped on your pocket, you whip it out and shave some arm-hair to show it's impressive ability to hold an edge. If you tried this with the serrated version you could send yourself to the emergency room. Just kidding, but I really do miss the plain-edge worker. Here is yet another loyal fan hoping to see another production run of the plain-edge worker. Pleassseeee?

Sal,

Have you made any decisions yet about the form the "special run" of Workers will take. I would like to see a really classy looking "gentleman's knife". My vote would go to a damascas blade with a G10 handle like the discontinued Standard but using the new pearl shell laminate. Plain edge, of course .

Hi Clay. We decided yesterday in a SKU mtg that it will be a plain edge. Primarily because the original model 20 years ago was a plain edge. (Well, maybe the forum Spyderco nuts has something to do with it)

That's what I like to hear Sal . Have you made any decision yet about blade material? Anything that you feel free to share that is .
