topic pretty much speaks for itself. what do you do to test sharpness? i use the rubber band and thumbnail test

i try shaving the hair off my arm<img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>, and then i usually rub my thumb across it, Not the nail, the flesh<img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>, i tryed that last night on my Emerson and it cut pretty deep into me <img src="sad.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>, maybe i should try some different ways huh?<img src="tongue.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

While I can make knives shave, I don't really care to, so shaving isn't really useful. I like slicing paper, then a quick pass down a thumbnail edge to check for burrs.
Never underestimate the impossible.

I love the rubber band test :p I took a rubber band ball I had made apart to have fun with it <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>
If no rubber bands are near I cut some paper <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

kitchen & feild knives, I do till they cut paper(not rip, nice clean slice)
EDC I do till they shave(other than the SE part, it just goes till it cuts paper clean), and rough it up if I have to.

Try the paper cutting test. If it can cut paper, then it's sharp. Some knives like chisel grinds blades can't be judged just by shaving arm hair.
