I recently received my Bob Lum Tanto, and have loved it! But I've never tried to sharpen a convex (appleseed) blade before, and there's not much info about this grind on the Internet. Does anyone have any advice on using stones to sharpen a convex blade? (A Sharpmaker is on its way)
Hi Bthye. There are different opinions on this subject. My suggestion is to use the sharpmaker as you would on any knife. This will give you a very effective cutting edge.
Trying to maintain a Moran edge (appleseed, hamaguriba) is best done with a buffing wheel of a "slack-a-belt" grinder. Both more difficult to have and use. Doing it by hand is possible, but more hobby (time consuming) activity.
