Spyderco Matriarch and the Spyderco Merlin

I was wanting to know if both these knives were meant for cutting or just self defense? I own both of them and it's hard to tell. THANKS!!

Matriarch is for self defence only and the Merlin is for utility and would make a good self defence knife.

<img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>Nut , I never thought much of the hawkbill bladed knives till I worked on 2 for a forumite.
Now I'm hooked also, they make fine utility knives as well as being very intimidating as S/D blade.
My son bought me my 1st Merlin from christmas this year, now I'm saving for my next <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> the Spyderhawk <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> Ron
