Spyderco's Story is not in my shelf so I ask here.

I got his older Khalsa Spydie and I wonder which material the handle and the blade are.

Usually the Spydercos I know have a stamp on the blade but this one not. Only the Khalsa symbol and on the other side Seki-City, Japan.

When was this knife in production?

Is this a rare knife or have there a lot of been produced?

Is it OK to use it as EDC? It feels very comfortable but I don't want to waste a rare Spydie. I have a bad consience about using my G-10 Police already... <br /><a href="/forums/attachmentarchive/7219-7-khalsa.gif" target="_new">View Attachment...</a><br />

Hi Icebjorn,

You got a beauty!!
I'm no expert on this model, but I have a PE just like yours. I think the handles are Micarta, and the blade, probably G-2 or GIN1. A fair number were made during the mid-late 90's. I met the designer at a knife show in California. He told me he was very happy with the outcome. The one problem he saw was that the locking liner sometimes traveled all the way to the right before lockup was achieved.
I love the knife, and think it's sort of been overlooked.Never considered it for EDC, though-- too scary and wierd in my part of the world!

I'm not used to liners, since my Spydies all have lock back system.
Is this a worn liner? Or is it correct?

That liner is perfect. Looks like there's zero wear.

Hey Icebjorn,
I also have that one I think I recall it being Gin-1. It has micarta handles and your liner looks perfect. Amazing knife to hold it is very different looking but soooo comfortable in the hand. Nice find. Not really too sure about its collectablity other than it looks good next to my Shabaria.

Ice,

I agree. The liner is perfectly aligned. With wear, it drifts to the right.
Feels great in your hand, doesn't it?

I read somewhere (maybe the Spyderco Story?) that the liner should not travel more than 1/3 of the thickness of the blade to achieve lockup. Yours looks right on the money.

Jot Singh Kalsa isn't exactly your sterotypical knifemaker, is he? <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Yes, it feels really good in hand, but it tends to cut them much more than I like, because my hands are too big and so the fingers slide towards the blade when I grab the knife.
Seems as this one will not be an EDC but a funny knife to collect for me.

Thanks for your help. <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

I think this knife was part of the inspiration for the Gunting.

I do not think that statement has enough emphasis Zexxer!

Remember the guy riding the knife in the Ad? That was Jot Singh Kalsa himself!
I attended one of his morning meditation sessions at the Blade Show. Yes he was wearing the same sort of outfit.
Interesting fellow.

He says that he &quot; gradually adopted the lifestyle and garb of a Sikh, (one who endeavors to live truthfully)&quot; but he says he grew up in Massachusetts... interesting fellow indeed.

Icebjorn -

I recall the 1995(?) catalog as the

Khalsa having GIN-1 bladesteel &amp;

micarta scales/handles ; believe this

or not, knifecenter.com had a couple

left in inventory! A homely bug, but,

like the Gunting, BUILT TO LAST! Hope

<img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> doesn't rest on their laurels &amp;

keeps the higher priced <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>'s &quot;high end&quot;

UNLIKE the now defunct company REKAT,

known for it's Sifu &amp; Carnivore/Cub

which was &quot;thrown down&quot; by the gang at

Bladeforums.com after a recent inquiry!

Not worth it, they said, no business=

void warranty!
