Don't you sometimes look at a bunch of knives and feel that two in particular seem to complement each other and make a "perfect" match?

My Nomination #1: Police G-10 (Plain edge) with a G-10 Harpy.

My Nomination #2: Police SS (Serrated edge) with Dragonfly SS (Plain edge)

Any other nominations out there?

Well, I'm gonna have to stick with some of my favorites.

1. Updated Viele with G-10 Harpy
2. Plain edge 440V Military with G-10 Harpy

Those have to be the best, as they are my daily and weekend carries, respectively

Good match:

G-10 Navigator & Chinook (plain edged).

Both have G-10 scales and a full length steel back spacer. Both are lock-backs. Both of them have riveted handles and they even have the same number of rivets in the same places. Blade shapes are very different, but both have a relatively large opening hole and are hollow ground. And finally, both are carried tip down. (You can even replace the Chinook's black clip with an an old Military clip, so they both can have silver clips! )

Some good matches for sure.

For years I caried an Endura for the heavy chores and a Lady Bug for the more delicate chores.

My Nomination..........

I have but only one............

Left handed Carbon Fiber Civilian..........

and

Right handed Carbon Fiber Civilian!

This didn't take a lot of thought, but the duo makes even the most cowardly of people feel like He-Man.

Wow, this thread was started a long time ago. I was about to reply with my concurrence with the first poster until I realized that that poster was me--almost a year ago!

Ryan, I wouldn't argue too hard against your nomination. Nice set for sure.

I sometimes pair my FRN Endura in my right front jeans pocket with my FRN Matriarch on the left. A lot of blade that you hardly even notice carrying.

My gruesome twosome are,
G-10 Standard (PE) and G-10 Harpy
or
SS Delica (PE) and SS Harpy.

When I have time to track down the large PE Calypso it will sometimes be,
Lrg Calypso (PE) and Lrg Calypso (SE)

Ok, here's mine:

* Cricket SE

* Calypso Jr. SE

-As you can probably tell, I like my 'toys' to be in a serrated edge. I do have some plain edge stuff too, but it doesn't have the fangs that the SE's have...

How 'bout a Delica and an Endura? Serrated, of course!

Or, a Dragonfly and a Police...both SS, both serrated.

I kinda figured Ryan would go with the L/R CF Civies. Show-off!

My pick would have to be the Endura 50-50 and the Ladybug. Next to each other, they look identical. Run an Endura through a copy machine and you have the Ladybug.

Keepin' it real...real sharp, that is.

no way folks, i have the ultimate pair, calypso jr FRN PE and harpy SS SE, calypso for delicate cutting jobs that require finesse and harpy for more agressive serrated cutting

My EDC is Calypso Jr. SE. I dont need anything else. The best "pair" idea I ever read here on the fourm (and followed) was to get a "SureFire" light. A great pair.

I am going with the Lil'Temperance (Trail Point) and a green Salsa. Even though I hate matching things, the color coordination should make for an interesting look. The second half of my pair should arrive next week (Green salsa).

O.K. Gentlemen. Here are few good pairs I prefer as EDC knives depending on tasks:
-Endura (FRN, 50/50) with Matriarch-the real EDC pair.
-G-10 Police plain edge with a G-10 Civvi- for more serious situations.
-G-10 Rookie SE with G-10 Harpy-if you or your spouse would prefer the smaller size.
-Native PE or Calypso PE with a Matriarch- quite a useful lightweight, FRN pair.
-Lil' Centofante PE with the new Viele SE-I use them with the tuxedo.
-Wegner jr. PE with the 50/50 Starmate-ultimate pair for the sportsman.
Well, I love them Spydercos, I really do, but I've got an other fair pair for pretty hard days: MOD Trident 60/40 with a Razorback 40/60. But I usually carry the Spydercos. The reason is simple: They can do the job- and they do it pretty fast.

1.) PE Calypso Jr. (boxcutter, letter opener) and SE full-size Calypso (heavier tasks), both in black Micarta.

2.) PE and CE Native lightweights, or the PE in stainless handles.

3.) Ti Salsa and Ti ATR (when they both hit the stores)

4.) 50/50 Delica and PE Dragonfly, lightweight or stainless

5.) #4 with a 50/50 Endura instead of the Delica

For heavy use:

6.) PE Endura LWT and full-size black Rescue

7.) G-10 Police PE and G-10 Military SE

For a concealed self-defense knife and a sheeple-friendly EDC:

8.) Micarta PE Calypso Jr. and G-10 Civilian, whichever blade edge you'd prefer in a fight.

9.) G-10 Rookie PE and G-10 Civilian, again in whichever blade you want.

There are lots of possibilities, obviously. I'm a fan of the Calypso Jr. My current pairing out of five styles I own is a CE Native Lightweight, and a PE Calypso Jr. Lightweight. They don't necessarily complement each other, but each has its uses. My Calypso Jr. is definitely the more used of the two knives for everyday tasks.

A matriarch and and Endura!!

Still, ever since I saw the film"Patriot", I like the combo of the Endura, and the VN tactical hawk by the American Tomahawk Company.

I have yet to decide whether I should plan for: 1-plain edge, 1-serrated so as to be prepared for "any" cutting task.

Or, 1-large & 1-small knife so as to have a "big cutter" and a sheeple friendly knife.

What seems to happen most of the time is I'll just end up carrying one at a time, as I've found out that they all do just about anything that I need to do with a knife, very well indeed.

Anyway, some of my combo's have ended up being...

toothy G-10 Police and plain edge S/S Police

large Calypso, plain edge and S/S Police, toothy

small Calypso, plain edge and S/S Police toothy

either of the above Calypso's w/ the toothy
G-10 police

large Wegner, plain edge and toothy Military

The knives that get carried by themselves most often lately are the PE Military, PE S/S Police, the PE Calypso Jr. and the large, PE Wegner.

Jeff/1911.

liko

I'd prefer a full-size Calypso to the Endura. Get both Calypsos in black micarta, and you have a pair that seems destined to be together, like the Endura and Delica with flat-ground blades and ergonomic handles.

Wise man say, forgiveness is divine. Remember that when your <img src="http://www.spyderco.com/forum/spyder.gif" border=0> bites you!

how about the endura and the merlin or the delica and the g-10 harpy, or the mouse and the full sized wegner?

03-01-2002, 01:42 PM
Well for travelling out of state for years I have carried a Delica PS strongside and a Merlin SE weakside. Great combination for light weight, small enough not to draw two much attention, lots of utility and defensive cutting power.

For serious backup to a firearm or where you need something but can't take a gun
- Military PE (stronghand) and Civilian SE (weakhand)

For EDC:
- Big Wegner and a Merlin
- Military PE and Delica PS

For dress:
- Calyspo Jr. BMS and burg Jester

Very low profile:
- Mouse and Ladybug II
