I read somewhere that the current Lum Chinese folder was a middle size, and that a XL was on the way. Anyone knows somthing about it? I am looking for one, but if it will grow bigger, I will wait.

I have an old image of the prototypes, and there was a larger model with what appears to be a 3 3/4" blade. The current mid-size one is a test model for basic design, and if it is highly successful then I wouldn't be suprised to see a mid-size FRN version added, and then maybe a production version of the large model. But all of that is probably years away, if ever.

Carlos, you should have seen my face. First a glimpse of hope and a smile from ear to ear :-) then :-(
I will have to wait then!

Size is not important... Important is how you use them.

Sorry, I don't mean to sound too negative. Personally I'd love to have the large version as well, but Spyderco is swamped in SKUs at the moment, and there hasn't even been mention of the large model in something like a year or more -- so I ain't holdin' ma breath. I'd like to hear the official word from Sal though.

I have some scans of a large custom version by Bob Lum, which were sent to me by another forumite several years ago. This was fairly early in my quest and it is the only one I have seen apart from the large prototype. Over the years there have been several of the mid-sized customs, with various scale materials, for sale at Arizona Custom Knives as well as several of the &quot;baby&quot; size. I wonder if this means that the larger size has not been popular with buyers. OTOH the &quot;baby&quot; looks very sweet and would be an excellent &quot;city knife&quot;, with burgundy micarta scales perhaps <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>.

Carlos, Clay Kesting, thankyou for your imput. I do not want to imply that I do not like the mid-size Chinese folder. It is great! As soon as I have the $$ it will be mine, but imagine an XL...
