I have been carrying Spydies for almost ten years and all have been with the PE. I bought a Rescue last year at the Blade show and have carried it a few times. I have since dulled it. What is the best way to sharpen it. I have the Spyderco sharpening system. I hate to ask a dumb question, but do you sharpen the back side of the blade. I need some expert advice from some of the forumites. Also, thanks in advance.

Shane,
Welcome to the Spydie forum!!! <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>
If you have the Sharpmaker then you can sharpen the serrations. Yes, you do sharpen the backside of the blade edge also. It is personal preference on how to do it. Some will sharpen the front, say 5 strokes, and the back 1 stroke. I sharpen mine about 5 strokes front edge, 3-4 backside. If you have the video or booklet with your Sharpmaker, just do what it says.
You can always send it to Spyderco for a tune-up and re-sharpen. Hope this helps.

My original Spydie buy was a rescue. Over the years I carried it, I sharpened both sides equally. Looking back, I think this was a mistake, though I did follow the instructions in the booklet my Sharpmaker came with.
I agree you should sharpen the "front" side more than the "back" how much, I don't know. I think I sharpen mine about 2-4 times on the "front" side for every 1 stroke on the "back."
My most recent serrated purchase, the Rescue 93mm, hasn't needed to be touched-up but once. I love VG-10 steel.

I do 1-1 ratio when I sharpen my serrated. Keeps a stronger edge.

Depends. What's your preference, a strong, slightly less-sharp edge, or a sharper, slightly weaker one?
If you want a strong edge, use a 1:1 ratio. If you want a sharp edge, use 3 or 4 to 1.
Never underestimate the impossible.
