Too : ALL
The plain & serrated ( P&S ) or combo edge
( CE ) get's little coverage I've noticed.
I see this on ALOT of military blades of
late ( Ka-Bar immediately comes to mind )
the philosophy seeming to be that it offers
the "best of both worlds" with regards to
utility.
What say the augerers?

I find the current c36 CE model to be about right for serrations. The 1.5" on a 4" blade gives enough to get rope cut, as well as straps and heavy plastic.
I pair it up with both a fully SE and a fully PE(though short, it gives me PE at base), so I don't have to worry about not having enough of either edge.
One of the major compliants with CE blades is the lack of use for either edge, as most give you 50/50 on a 3"ish blade. The 4"+ range is where CE works, and thats simply by giving about 2" or less of SE, giving a 2"+ PE tip to work with.

The combo pattern seen on the Yarborough or the newer Ka-Bars seems about right. 2" of serrations combined with 5" of PE offers a better balance than does a true 50-50.
Never underestimate the impossible.

I like it on 4 in blades if it is in a 25 se and 75 PE

Fellows,
I sure like the combination edge style on my large Wegner. It really is a truly useful edge.

I bought my father a VG-10 Endura with the combo edge as his "camping knife" (they have an RV so not really roughing it) and he loves it. He always asks me to check laws if he can carry it into certain cities, so I bought him a dragonfly for his city carry. On a larger blade like the Endura, combo edge serves well.

Allen:
Have never been a fan of the SE blade but took an SE Standard on a ten mile trek into the mountains today. We were searching for ramps and morels (Appalacian wild onions and mushrooms). Also took a S@W revolver for snakes etc. The Standard worked great on greenbriers, multiflora rose, grapevines, etc. I am sold the SE but a CE would have done the job also. Won't ever leave my compass behind again. Am trying to rest up!

I suppose having a combo edge knife is better than not having a knife at all.

I like the CE. The only problem is that you tend to sharpen the PE more often, and in time this will result in a sorta funny looking blade
Anyway, the SE looks good (love my SE Delica)
