This might be a bit off-topic, but I thought it might be interesting for some...

I work in a prison, and the last few days have been rather eventful.

Wednesday night, an inmate attacked an officer on D-Block, and had to be subdued by four other COs. About 100 other inmates on the block, who were watching, became agitated, and surrounded the COs, who retreated into the control room, locking the door.

A call for help went out, and the cavalry arrived, taking several inmates to "The Hole".

Last night (Thursday), another officer was attacked. Two inmates jumped him and dragged him into an office on D-Block, and began beating him. They slammed him in the head with his flashlight, and then bashed him in the head with a steel rolodex.

When help arrived, one inmate had the officer over the desk, in a headlock, and was trying to break the CO's neck.

Two officers were taken to the hospital for treatment. One was injured seriously enough that he had to have someone else write the report on the incident.

Both inmates were charged with Aggravated Assault, Simple Assault, Threatening an Employee or Their Family, and Using Abusive or Obscene Language To An Employee.

Things seem to be heating up for the summer...

I was always amazed how your nation affords to maintain such people. Obviously, you have resources. At leas here guardians and convicts live in &quot;harmony&quot;. Now and then one manages to escape for a few days (with the unwitten approval of the warden). When a newcomer arrives, the guardians have the privilege to be the first who pop his cherry, if I may say so. (It's for good, not a joke) <img src="sad.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>
