I know it's not a Spydie anymore, but I couldn't resist...

Blade Steel: S30V Flat Ground

Blade Length: 1 15/16"

Overal closed length: 3 1/16"

Overall open length: 4 15/16"

Blade-Tech V-Hole (works good!)

Scales: G-10 (texture is like the Military)

The problem now is that I will have to sacrify one of my other spydies in a trade to get an original Mouse again...<img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>...can't believe I ever gave that away...

Ted:
Looks like a winner to me. I will have to put this one on my Summer wish list.

Man, I like! Actually I never had much of a yen for one when they were a Spydie, but something about that one speaks to me...

Hi Ted,

Not sure about this one. I know Wegner paid his dues with 3 nice Spyderco models, but any non-round hole still seems like a ripoff of the basic design. I'm sure we'll see more hole variations in the future...diamond-shape, oval and probably even square (to avoid Trademark infringement). Just doesn't do it for me.

Yes, a very nice and tempting little knife Ted! The design is still very good and it will be an excellent EDC. Have fun with it and thanks for sharing.

Clipits work!

A very nice thing, thanks for the pics. I wish it came with a round hole <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Ted,

From your picture it looks as though this version has an almost full flat grind. I checked the BladeTech website and the picture there shows a hollow grind more like the original <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> knife. I'm a big fan of flat grinds and I think this is a big improvement over the original.

Great pics, Ted! Best I have seen of this knife on the net. Could you describe the lockback mechanism used - same as Spyderco with the removable spring ? If you ever decide to take the knife completely apart, kindly post the pics. Thanks!

Clay, the picture on the blade-tech site is a prototype. They were never produced that way (got that from Tim Wegner himself on BF)
The edge is indeed almost a full flat grind. Only a tiny portion above the V-hole is not grind, but that won't effect cutting.

It's a standard lock-back with what looks like a loose spring. Everything is screwed together, not rivited, so it can be taken apart.

The clip screws go into the steel backspacer. There's even a small tube of 'Vibra-Tite' supplied with the knife to fasten them once you're sure about left- or right carry. The clip itself is very tight, and together with the G-10 handles makes it very grippy.

Further, I noticed some very thin washers around the blade. Not bronze or anything, but those 'plastic' types.

Sazabi, It's your lucky day.

Click on the pictures for larger ones.

Handle screws are Torx-6, Pivot screw is Torx-15. Clip is Philips-1

I didn't screw off the backside, but I guess you get the picture. I was pleased to see it like this. Honestly I don't like opening lock-back's, because some can be difficult to re-assemble, but this one is easy!

Thanks Ted, much appreciated.
I am really glad to see that they did not use a rear thong rivet thereby enabling total disassembly. When using compressed air, bits always get caught in the slot holding the loose spring in my Spydies. Also, the snap from closing should be pretty good since they use a metal backspacer.
One last request, if I may be so bold as to ask, kindly measure the distance across the handle where the first finger comfortably sits opposite the thumb with the blade in the open position.

Congrats on the Twice Mouse, Ted. Excellent work on the pix also - what photo SW are you using?? Who provided your web storage or do you have a site yourself? (I was forbidden to acess Domein of homepage actief images)
Jurphas is looking for help posting pix in posts BTW.

Java, I use a Canon Powershot S330 (2megapixel) camere in macro mode. I then resize the pictures to 50% to make them a bit more sharper and then crop them.
I have 10MB webspace at my provider, so I can store a reasonable amount of pictures. I just upload them with FTP and link them with the 'IMG SRC=' HTML tag in my posts.

For SW I use Adobe Photoshop, but honestly, just plain old Microsoft Paint can do the same thing (re-sizing &amp; cropping). If you, or Jurphaas need more info just shoot me an e-mail.

Thanks, Ted.

I keep hearing a lot of good about all the Cannon Powershots. Two MP seems about right for our use here on the web and Adobe Photoshop is one of the best packages for manipulation.

I'm borrowing a friend's Olympus E-10 right now and it seems more suitable to my UW needs - Sub Aqua makes a great E-10 housing for UW work - and the lenses and hot shoe provide great versatility and shooting range. Four MP might be a bit much for web stills and my software is the pits. Maybe I should stick with the Nikon SLR format for UW and just find a good price on the Powershot for everything digital.

I left some instructions for Jurphas on the thread addressed to you. Hope you don't mind me bargin' in there. Thanks for the info and offer to help out and again, good work on the Mouse photos.

Stay safe! Stay sharp!
