View Full Version : Reject Peter Herbst Titan pieces
While going through a corner of the storage area, I found a small number of original Peter Herbst Titanium handled, German made pieces.
These were rejects in that they were not up to our standards and could not be sold, even as 2nds. (2nds are usually acceptable quality with a some type of non safety issue defect).
We thought that rather than dump them, some might be interested in the pieces, knowing what they were. We spinewacked all of them and ended up with 137 that passed. The detents are not up to our standards and there are other minor defects as well. There is no warrantee on these. (They will be notched as 2nds).
Think of them as a "piece of Spyderco History". Not as an EDC.
They are $35 each + shipping and can be purchased through SFO.

Wow, I just received mine today. Does have some cosmetic flaws but seems perfect mechanically. Interestingly, it's about 20 grams heavier than my Almite Herbst, due probably to the metal back spacer on the Ti vs. plastic (I think) on the Almite. This was a really great buy. Thanks Sal and thanks again Patti.
Cheers,

UPDATE. I was bugged by the scratches on the front scale of the handle of my Ti Herbst. Maybe a little sandpaper could help?
I tried a little 320 grit wet or dry and it worked. Carefully removed all the scratches and preserved the finish on the handle. The thing popped my arm hair with ease and the action is maybe the slickest of any Spydie I have. Except for the 'second notch' I wouldn't call this a second. May be the best buy I've made. Sal, I think maybe you let these get away. But thanks.

Disorder,
Let us know how yours comes through. I'd be interested. Mine is now perfect except will always be marked with the 'second notch'. But still one helluva great buy.

Almost forgot, there are still six combo edges left.

I handled a combo edge 2nd today at SFO, I could not find a flaw! The serrations were ground a bit more shallow than my other spydies, but the action and lockup was very good. If you're a fan of the Herbst, this is too good to pass up!

The Ti handle is much prettier than the Almite IMO. Better get the last few while you can gang.

arrived! and with a S. pin -thanks !-
the only things i noticed are:
a small notch (second sign?) at 02 position around blade hole
blue line lightly faded in a small area of handle
really a small movement -about half millimeter)of blade when locked open-dunno ,maybe to tight the joint will help, will try it.
-UPDATE!-
it worked, now the movement of blade is disappeared. the opening is smooth, better than most of my others 15 Spydies-
-END of UPDATE-
that's all..i definately can live with this "problems". a great deal, thanks Patti Sal and all Spyderco team, you really follow your motto : "Integrity is being good ...etc"
regards to all

The only real prob I found with mine was that the opening hole has a little to much bevel and my thumb sliped out of it at about 85% open. I applied some Militec-1 to the pivot to make it a little slicker even, and now there is no problem. (Except that I can't spell)

I received mine yesterday, and it's as great as I expected. It's my first Spydie, I only have a BM so far, but I am waiting for a Meerkat to come.
BTW, the blade is a little loose, I'll tighten it, as suggested.
