Sharpening a fixed blade

Hi all,



My dad has an old bayonet that he has asked me to sharpen with my Sharpmaker. Any idea what angle I should use? Any hints before I begin?

Hi Mathew. I would begin with the 40 degree angle and the corner of the gray (brown) stone. Use the corner until you actually have an edge.

I sure hope the steel on this bayonet is not too hard - otherwise, I'll probably be grinding for a long time! It feels like it has no edge at all right now... but then maybe I'm just spoiled by my Spyderco :-)
