I notice that some new lockback Spyderco's are coming out with the Boye cutout on the lock release. What are the advantages of this design versus the regular release that follow the profile of the handle? Is it to make it easier to locate the release in the dark or for visually impaired knife users?

All the models are supposed to have it added to them eventually. It is supposed to make the knife harder to unlock when under hard use I believe.

makes sence... "what's easier to push, a flat edge, or one that curve away from your hand when you push?"...
We all start with 10 fingers. Those with Spydies have 9 to spare, Still need a thumb. Good thing I still have 8 to spare...

I really like the cutout. It helps your fingers "remember" where the lock is, and makes unlocking the blade a more natural motion. I have a calypso jr. micarta version (no cutout) and a calypso jr. lightweight (has the cutout) and I like the lightweight one better, in part, because it has the cutout. (I also love the VG-10 steel)

I was playing with one the other day, and I did not like it. In all the years I've used Spyderco knives, I liked the lock the way it was, never a problem with untimely lock releases. But if that's way they are going, I guess I'll just have to get used to it.
