Ok, bit more than 2yrs actually... Aug 20, 2001 purchase... but you get the idea. Non-dented lockbar.

I've been using this one harder than most folks would be using a 2" knife. That includes light prying jobs, tree pruning, and landscaping fabric. I've also taken this one swimming(with nothing but a rinse under the tap after), it's gone sinking(again in a pool), into a dishsink and dish machine(I used it on pork at work that day), and been sweated on heavily... and even flying post 9-11(have that story floating here somewhere, aug 17th or 18th last year).

Handle: Bit slippery when using left handed, without a clip to aid in finger placement(for closing), otherwise great. Comfy in both forward and reverse grip, and long enough for both with a choil.

More than a few dings in it, dropped off the roof when working on our shed, dropped when putting up xmas lights, dropped when cutting boxes on the top shelf at BK... you get the idea. I've polished a few times, and now it's got nice scratches from the rig since january.

Lockup: still rock solid. we're talking ZERO play in any direction. Blade sits slightly to left(non clip) scale wheh closed(talking a few degrees, not enough to be noticed by most ppl.

Blade/edge: Lost a small bit of tip over my many resharpenings. It's been used at 40deg on boxes, convexed edge, thinned edge(to 30), convexed again, and thinned again(2x... to 20ish, and now to flats)... Nice smooth transition from flats to edge, no shoulders at all.

Clip: Lost a screw, running on outer 2. It's heading off at month end if cash allows for custom work, and it's been on 2 screws since last winter sometime... not going anywhere.

Finish: as you can assume, it's dented and has a few scratches on it... but I've only had it away from me 2x. Feb 02 I was in CFB Esquilmault(vancouver island) with cadets for 2 weeks, no toys at all... and then last winter, while Eric did his work on my rig.

Overall: Think I paid 120cdn for this one. 2yrs of use so far, and no signs of stopping. The 150(ish)cdn of work I'll get from Vess will be dressing this up for a wider variety of usage. Wood scales, filework, leather sheath.... *drool* Will be a dress peice that can be used hard. I'll be carrying my GS 'Fly until I can buy another EDC Beater 'fly. This shape has yet to even raise eyebrows when used in public.

Well worth it. If anyone is looking for a 2" range knife or something from a gift, recommend the ss dragonfly, available about 40-45usd online.

Yo VW: good review.

I think I remember (but too lazy to search): you have a neck rig that works with clip removed? I recently got an SS fly and think this might work well. Does your kydex rig require the clip?

Thanks hombre.

I can take the clip off, and lose about 1/2 the tension... it clips both the pivot end and the curved tip of the clip to hold it in.

the rig is also sized for a small tek lock, to be used with either a g-clip or tek... or anything else made that size. I wear it as a neck carry, pivot over the sternum, clip out. I can lay flat on it.

VW: if you want another SS model, check out this guy:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2188808366&category=43 334

Handle is '888store' on eBay. Cheapest prices I've seen on the SS model;about $28 shipped. He's only got SE now,but you can prolly ask if he's getting in PE.

I'll probably get a used one from BFC or here. I've beat on this one hard, doubt many folks would be as hard as I am on it. Local will be around 80-90cdn I think, so the price range of 30usd for a used(63usd factory) brings it around 1/2 of local.

You think you beat on knives, VW? You'll have to meet my Buck 450 beater sometime.

4 years work use, minimal maintenance except for tightening the pivot with a pair of ViseGrips every year or so.

Sharpened on whatever is on the truck at the jobsite, typically a point file. Still looks as good as it did when I bought in in '96, save being sharpened down about 10%.

I've used that one as a chisel, prybar, scorer, and all sorts of stuff Buck would have a heart attack reading about. Through all that abuse, it still locks up solid as a bank vault!

Patrick>have used my SS Fly for almost a year now. Have sharpened it many times, dug out gaskets, seals, slivers everything. (hydraulic machine shop work environment) it has never failed me. It is a great carry and forget about it knife. You never have to worry you are going to break it. That was the reason I choose them for my ushers.
Great review and excellent Spydie!

Craig> if I can manage to break this sucker, it'll be a lot more abuse than I've put it through already. I've used the spine as a screwdriver more than a few times, and that twisting didn't kill it. Even popped open a small paint can a montn ago, using the spine.

Have a co-pilot I've been carring for light duty since my original hunter wore out a few years ago . Hate to use that as a brute do anything knife, but I just love the size. Just ordered the fly in ss/pe, along with a spyderco book from new graham, can't wait. About the same size as my co-pilot, ok the clip position will take some getting used to, but I like this size for edc and around the sheeple.

Thanks for the review. You almost made me want one for myself except that I'm not into SS that much. I'd rather go for a G-10 Navigator at this size. Yet that full flat ground of the Dragonfly is a great feature to be considered

Vampyerwolf, I just received a new ss fly today, along with a spyderco story book from new graham(Great service, thanks all). What a great little knife, no blade play, sharp as a razor great ergonomics. It will evetually replace my co-pilot for edc... Well maybe it will... It might just tag along for the ride with it. It's almost the same size with better ergonomics for sure. Wish it was tip down carry to facilitate a spydie drop easier(Sal, are ya listening?).
I've just started to glance at the book on the history what a resource, I should have ordered this sooner! I even remember the arm clamp that was in the first catalog I ever received. That goes back a few years. Thanks again for a great product.
