I wanted to share my story, and ask for advice. Last month, we were vacationing in Florida. We had rented a pontoon boat for the day, to take the kids to Shell Island, as we have done for several years now. I pulled the boat in, as close as I could to shore, so that my 4 year old son, could walk in the shallows to shore, "like his big brother." After they were on the beach I back out, so as to not get caught by tide changes, and set the anchor. Itossed the anchor out, and proceeded to tie it off, and I realized that I had drifted too far. I decided to wrap the rope around my left hand twice, to pull in the slack, and tie off to the opposite corner of the boat. No sooner thatn I had begun pulling in the slakc the wind picked upp, the boat turned, pulling the anchor rope around the corner, and squeezing my hand. Being Left handed, my merlin was clipped into my left waist band. I managed to pull and open it right-handed. The only place I could cut the rope was by sawing against a piece steel, on the corner of the boat. I managed to get the rope cut, anchor retrieved, and only suffered bad rope burb and damaged pride. It was one of those stupid things we do taking a shourcut. Instead of starting over, and tying it oof again, I tried to pull in the slack, and got caught by the fact that the rope was still secured, smashing my hand, as the wind pulld the boat. Now the permanent damage it my Merlin, the edged is badly chipped and scarred.
Does anyone know what my replacement options are? And to further complicate it, this is an older FRN Clipped G-2 Blade model.
