Hello fellow forumites,

I recently joined the group when i purchased a SS Police plain edge. Love living in Canada where we don't have ridiculous blade length limitations <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Unfortunately, I've already dropped my Police on the group and it got a few nicks or dings or scratches (call 'em what you want) on the handle. What's the best way to get rid of them? File? Sand paper? Dremel?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

TIA, Jerome

Hi jeromel

Welcome to the Spyderco Forum.

If the scratches aren't too deep just use a green Scotchbrite pad to refinish the SS - it's what Spyderco uses to do the finishing.

If you want to get rid of deeper scratches then wet/dry sandpaper is the best way to go. You can get a variety of grits at auto supply stores (or Canadian Tire).

Start with a coarser grit (about 400) and work up. 1500 to 2000 grit will give a shiny finish.

Use lots of water, change paper often, and use a firm backer (like a rubber pencil eraser) to keep the paper flat against the surface you're refinishing. Just using your fingertips won't give you as uniform a finish.

Hope this helps

Gotta concur with 4ster on this one... I've always used Green Scotchbrite, and Sal confirmed a while back on here that's what they use to finish them at the factory.

I have a mirror finish on my ss dragonfly... dremel, felt pad, and veritas green 0.5micron paste.

works pretty well.

Used the green Scotchbrite on my CoPilot. Gave the handle a nice brushed look.

Gotta wonder what they make those things out of that they can effect stainless steel.
