View Full Version : Flick-a-bility
Recently purchased a Rescue 93mm and have found it extremely easy to open with a flick of the wrist. So impressed, I've ordered the Rescue Jr. Are other Spyder models as easily opened with the wrist flick?.

Hi Coop, Welcome to this great forum!
I've noticed this, especially with blades with more mass. I used to carry a Lum Ti Tanto, which almost dropped open on its own. Also, the Terzoula Starmate does this easily.I suppose other models do this as well, especially after some breaking in.

Some do and some don't. For example, the large Wegner is this way. It is also easily thumb-flicked open. I really enjoy doing this.

Thats the reason I own a spydie !
The Dodo is my edc. I just figured out that maybe that little "tail" is what you hold on to when you flick open the blade. Does this flicking open the blade affect the lock or the warranty?

Aloha and welcome COOP. I can and love to "reverse drop" many of my Spyders. I don't do it often as this method, like flicking , wasn't the intended opening procedure...but don't ya just love it?

Thanks for the welcome and the input. If all goes well with UPS, my new Blue Rescue Jr should arrive next week. Be safe.

Welcome to the Spyderco Forum. There are many Spydies who can be flick-opened. Especially the ones with linerlock / compression lock, (like the Shabaria, Vesuvius, Lum); they have a smoother action. But you can do the trick with an Endura as well, for instance, or even with the smaller Delica.

I read a good article about "flicking" knives open. I like to flick them from time to time but what I hate is everytime I let one of my buddies check out a new knife they imediately try flicking it open. Wild arm movements procede and if it doesn't flick open they give me this wierd look as if "your knife is broken" I must admit I do do it occasionally but I do not advise it. Just My prference, I really don't believe it hurts the knife I just don't really like it done with my knives. Sure I Spydie drop them and I guess that is the same pressure/shock/force only on a different plane. I would just hate to see my SS Police flicked and then go flying through the air. I flick my Millie only when I need it fast..all others are opened the traditional way. Take Care!

For pure flick-ease, nothing beats a Dodo. All manner of drop, whip, and reverse openings are accomplished with super ease. It is also the best (so far) I have found for the Terzuoula twist opening as demonstrated by Poppa Spyder himself. Why this blade opens so easily that when I casually flipped it to my dive buddy, it opened in mid flight and presented my now ex-friend with his very first spydie-bite! Needless to say, I no linger casually toss, flip, or lob any <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> – open or closed – to anyone.
Stay safe! Stay sharp! Stay away from Java and his Dodo! J
