Just a quick opinion needed. When selling my 1st gen. and CF Civilians, are there limits on who I can sell to? Of course I would not sell to a kid, but are there limits on mailing them? (California or Canada?) As always thanks for your advice.

Hi Spyderwa,

Great website by the way.

LEGALLY,I think 18 is the norm for any non-auto knives. The Civis look scary, but I think laws are the same.

ETHICALLY, there are some 18 year-olds I wouldn't be comfortable selling a peanut butter spoon to.

Thanks, It is frustrating that I even have to ask, but nowadays there are so many places that are restricting knives of one sort or another that I have to check. I think that there were some restrictions on the Matriarch, LEO only, but I was unsure on the Civies. Thanks.

Personally I would sell any knife anywhere and as far as age IMO I think 15 or 16 should be old enough to buy a knife. This may all be wrong in todays world though.I am 35 and things have changed for the worse in the past 15 to 20 years. It wasn't that long ago that it was legel for a 16 year old to buy shotgun shells,I think it still is legel but Wal mart will not do it.
I got into a short but heated arguement with a salesman at walmart after hearing him tell a 17 year old that he would have to have his mother buy a BB gun for him and that it was illegal to sell it to a minor.I told him to tell the truth that it isn't illegal to sell to a minor and that was just walmarts rules. He told me even if he was allowed to sell to a minor he wouldn't.I then called him a moron and walked off.
Sorry got way off the subject here.

I learn something new everyday, even though I don't want to. Jeff

You are asking for liability problems if you sell any weapon to anyone under 18 yrs.

There was a criminal case in Calif involving injury to a person with a Civilian. The case was lost and it was appealed. It was the first case in Calif history where the knife went along with the documents to the appeal court. The Judge tried to peel his apple with the Civilian and declared the knife was not a normal or utility, etc knife; that it was for unique purposes unlike those of a common citizen and the appeal was denied.

There are no restrictions on Civvies and Matriarchs, beyond those placed on any knives(example, here in VA I couldn't carry either on school property because the blades are larger than 3 inches). I've seen listings on eBay claiming stuff that they were only for LEO's and military, but this was just hype.

JFJ: what were the particulars in the Cali case? Was the knife used for a crime or in self-defense?

And how did you get 28 Workers? You hording them or something? ;-)

The Calif case was criminal.

Regards the 28 Workers:
We are a full line Spyderco distributor and proud of our inventory - if we do not have an item in stock it is because it is on Spyderco backorder or not isssued yet. The 28 discontinued Workers are part of our inventory.
