While at a local outdoors shop yesterday, I finially bought my first Spyderco...an Endura w/ zytel handles and ATS 55 blade that was partially serrated. So far, I'm impressed. Although the knife was not "Scary sharp" out of the box, it was still able to shave hair. I later used my Shapmaker to produce an even better edge. The thing that impressed me the most was the fact that the point was literally needle sharp. Another thing that was equally impressing, was the fact that there was no blade play...this seemed unusual since the tension isn't adjustable. Since I've been so impressed w/ this knife, I plan to buy some of the higher end Spydercos...either the military or the Lum tanto.

I'm having the same problem on picking my second spyderco. I can't decide between the Military or the Bob Lum Tanto. I would really like to know which one you decide on and why.

Unfortunately, the tip of my Endura broke recently. I've also added the starmate to my list of possible knives to purchase.

My first Spyderco, A plain edged worker, also had a needle-sharp point. I was so careful not to break it, and one day it was sitting open on top of a book on my desk. It fell (about 2 inches) onto the desk and bent the tip over. I tried to straighten it and it snapped. It kinda bummed me out, although the knife then just had an average point.
Oh well...

Hi, Zombie, I just got my 1st... exact same Endura as yours. Think my next will be a serrated Merlin, then a plain (blue?) Delica. I can see how a serrated Military might be attractive, love liner-locks, and a good all purpose blade. Those tanto things never did it for me.
Assuming we're talking edc here? "Display" could be another tangent entirely<g>.

Did you guys know that you can send your knives back to spyderco and they can fix the broken tips? Same thing happened to one of my old Delica's and all they did was re-grind it.
