hello i just bought a fully serrated stainless handled 2001 POLICE. it caught my eye in a magizine so i ordered it not realizing how big it is. when it came in the mail i opened the package and picked up the biggest folder i have ever seen. imeadtly i thought that it cant be legal to carry so i went to spyderco.com to find out. and thats when i ran into this awesome forum. everyone seems really friendly and helpful. so i looked at everything posted in an attempt to find an anwser but i couldnt find one. so if anybody out there knows the laws i would appericate it if you could inform me of them. like if i cant carry it concealed or if i cant carry it at all. thankx

it all depends on where in the world you are... for example:
Malysia--3"
Canada--6" blade to carry, 4" is pocketknife(legal to conceal), 2" is keychain(no restrictions)...
USA--Varies from state to state

hope this helps. I can clarify any Canadian ones if you want...

Hi Youngndumb. Welcome to the Spyderco forum. Laws really are a local thing as to size, as mentioned. You should check with you local authorities.

Check out www.azleg.state.az.us for Arizona laws.
Any length blade is legal in AZ, but if it's a folding knife, locking or not, and has a blade longer than 4", and its concealed, its carrying a concealed weapon. The police model has a 4&1/8 inch blade. If you have a CCW permit, you are covered. I think, but I'm not sure, if part of the knife is exposed, as when clipped to the top of your pocket, that won't count as concealed.

A follow-up. The ARS says it is misconduct to carry anything concealed except a "pocket knife" unless you have a CCW. ARS does not spell out what is a pocket knife. The 4" rule that I was so sure about might be from court rulings. I suppose one could argue that if it has a pocket clip, its a pocket knife, but I don't want to be the test case.
