Oh man...
I just got a chance to handle one yesterday - WOW! Hey, I already said that, didn't I?
I mean it, it is perfect in every conceivable way. Smooth, strong, ultra sharp, nicer feeling G-10 finish - I can't get one into my clutches soon enough!
By the way, I am delighted to see that the pocket clip finish has returned to the "blued" finish, from the painted looking ones of a while back. Super-duper! Thank you very much for doing this, Sal it is a HUGE improvement.
With buckets of respect, Jeff/1911.

Chuck - Give in, give in, give in...it's what I decided to do.
Mario - I will soon have an ATS-34 plain edge to trade...
Alan - Nice picture!

My Military in S30V is daily EDC. I've given up on trying to carry anything else. All other Spydie purchases are either given away or thrown in the safe. The C36 is the ultimate EDC knife.

4077th,
I'm sure the one I get will give my others a run for their money as well. I just found out that the local shop has got the plain edged S30V Militaries in stock, so I'll be heading over there today. Yippee!

LATER THE SAME DAY...
I picked up the S30V Millie just before lunch today. It is truly an impressive knife. As soon as I got back to work I was demonstrating how sharp it was and proceeded to shave the stubble from part of my cheek...after a minute or so, my buddies started to laugh as the blood began to run down my face.
Yep, I had opened a small fissure in my facial covering. I guess I should have been a bit more careful, considering it was "beer and burger day" at the local restaurant down the street, and I had bought us all an extra round. Well, I was excited, dontcha' know!

Jeff ... Talk to me .. What makes the S30V so much better than the 440 version?

Stevie Ray,
First off, I have always had significant trouble restoring an edge on CPM440V. So far, with my S30V Native, this does not seems to be the case at all. So we'll see with the S30V Millie...
Overall, it just seems "tighter" and more highly refined somehow, and the handle slabs are noticeably thicker, but not too thick. It just feels even more solid than the old ones, and more precise. The blade is really sharp, see my post above.
Also, my 440V models had those pesky black "painted" clips, that would get scratched and look goofy...with the "blued" style ones that they have now, they will more gracefully fade with wear. This has been my experience anyway with other Spydies and this style of clip.

You will be supprised at how much longer it will hold its edge compared to the 440V.I was touching up my 440V once a week and the S30V will go 2 sometimes 3 weeks between tough ups.If you really use it hard you may have to touch it up weekly.

Jeff, thanks for the heads up about the ATS-34 Millie, BUT I have my sights set on one, in PE, with the S30V steel.
I handled a SE S30V Millie at a gun show a couple of weeks ago, and I could tell just by handling it, that there were refinements made to an already outstanding Spydie. The pivot action was REAL smooth, the nested linerlock seemed to lock more solid(if that's possible), the G10 was grippier than any other Military that I've had, and the SpyderEdged S30V steel was hair poppin, scary sharp. In short, the Spydie crew took an already awesome knife and made it even better....if that's possible.

Jeff,
OK .. I dragged the Millies out to do a comparison with the S30V I picked up today. The G10 does appear to be visually thicker on the S30V. I think all the comments about the extra feel of the S30V relates to the thickness of the new G10 spec. I wish I had a pic, but my Millie collection includes the old version in SE where Spyderco chose to spell the knife name and Spydie description on 3 lines, a more recent PE 440V and the new Combo S30V. The new one does have a REALLY solid feel. I'm liking it ....

SR,
Glad to hear you like the new version, me too. I also have an ARS-34 version with the diamond engraved blade markings, (before the black letter versions came out). This one of mine is also a plain edge edge knife.
Jeff.
