Some advice please. How best to maintain the original geometry?

Hi John. If it's the "hamaguri" grind, only a buffer will really work. If it's the satin finish flat grind, use the sharpmaker as normal.

Hello,
I've had good results using a leather belt in a small belt sander, like 1X30 cheap one from any hardware store. I use fine rouge on the belt and lightly wipe the blade across the moving belt with the blade edge pointing DOWN. Otherwise you'll just cut the belt in half VERY quickly. Be gentle and take you time. Good luck
