Aloha all...I noticed a full size SS-PE-Rescue at this old knife shop in town. There appears to be some kinda "ruler" on it, and if I remember correctly, a line cutter or gut hook. I WAS gonna get it a last year and I think the shop still has it. I've never seen one of these before...it's either this or a PE Civi...HELP!
God will put you over...if you let Him!
Um...Daywalker?
Buy it and do it now. That does not sound like a Rescue. If it looks like mine in the picture, that is a Model 2001 Diver. If the lanyard clip has been removed, it is called the Pre Diver. The Diver is the SCUBA Probe's poppa and is worth a wee more than an SS Rescue. Mahalo and good find!
Stay safe! Stay sharp!

Aloha Java! Thanks for the picture and the advice...I swear though, the one I saw had lees steel in front of the hole, more like a current rescue, and it has a PE. the handle looks like the picture you posted though only narrower...OKAY, I'd rather ask and feel stupid for a moment, than to not ask and feel stupid for a lifetime but...what makes this a prized spyder?
MAHALO Java!

<b>Aloha, Daywalker</b>,
This is the original Diver’s knife by Spyderco and introduced in 1986. There were a total of 1,200 made. The original Divers had a clip like the Snap-It but it had too much lateral play and could open and be lost while diving or carrying it with the release hook. The Spyderco Story shows the Diver in a line drawing submitted under patent 3834295 on page 36. I get confused on which model is the 2001 PRE. According to the book, the PRE was added to indicate more research and development was needed and the clips were ground off. The one I have came in the blue box with the serial, 566, on it but designates it as a <b>2001R-SER “CLIPIT™ “DIVER” Right Hand-Serrated Edge</b>. It also has a 3 screw SS clip on the reverse side and it looks like the bail was added after market. The book says the blade steel is 440 stainless electro-polished for extra corrosion resistance but it does not appear on the blade.
The line cutter on the DIVER is kind of unique with the business end of the cutter terminating in circular holes chamfered on each side to a circular cutting edge. My SCUBA Probe has the same cutter but I have seen Mini-Probes and a few Probes with a simple straight notch cutter.
Rescues do have a narrower handle but I don’t recall seeing a measuring scale on the side. The Rescue’s poppa, the Mariner, was available in AUS-8 and G-2 (GIN-1) steel. I don’t recall a measuring scale on the Mariner handles either. The Rescue/Mariner also has a longer and more blunt sheepfoot blade but I don’t recall a line cutter.
If you decide not to buy the Diver/Rescue, drop me an e-mail and maybe we can work out a deal.
Meanwhile - <b>Aloha! Hau'oli Lâ Ho'omaika'i!</b>

Don't think the Mariner came in AUS-8. It did come in ATS-55,though,w/both LH and RH variants.
Pic shows Mariners plus Probes.
