I find that I cant cut ANYTHING with my shiny new cf delica. I dont want to put a mark on this shiny, pristine beauty. I keep using the old clunker, the frn delica pe. with the ugly blue handle. I dont care what happens to it. a workhorse, for sure.any tips for getting over it? a dillema, for sure. oh, i have cut open a few letters with it, but thats as far as I seem to be able to go. I realise that I MAY NEED HELP.

There's only 1 solution. Buy another CF Delica and put one away in a drawer and use the other .. :--))

Hi Ledheded,
Yeah, duplicates sometimes work. I guess they reduce the guilt of using a pristine beauty, because you have their twin tucked away in a drawer somewhere.
Problem is, this habit can become obsessive. I have lots of Spyderco knives. I still can't bring myself to use 95% of them. Every time I think I'll break one out, I still return to my old beaters, a CE FRN Endura for outside the city limits and a PE G10 Navigator for daily carry.
Sometimes I get the feeling from posts here that most of you use 95-100% of your knives in a "daily rotation". My daily rotation is putting my pants on and dropping the Nav in an available pocket. Am I alone in my obsessive habit?

I've got 15 or so Spydies in my dresser for EDR (2 Flys, Calypso Jr, CF Delica, Micarta Jester, a Kershaw or two, couple of different Natives, my favorite Endura, and a few other odds and ends), and the rest are in the war chest ...
Ledheded ... one of the 15 is a SE CF Delica .., although I only carry it in dress pants ... Just can't seem to bring myself to shove it into jeans ....

sigh... I just put the new cf delica back in its little box, and tucked it away in a desk drawer. maybe someday I'll actually use it...

I know what you mean. I've got the same prob. Gotta buy two:one for the collection, one for carry. Then I wind up carrying the same ones over and over. Here's my EDC 'rotation'(minus the Rench, plus a Dodo,SS Rookie,CF Delica, and BM 814). The SE Native 440v gets the most carry, and I just can't bring myself to use the Mouse.
Just got a Harpy today. It was for a specific purpose and I thought I wouldn't use it for anything else. However, when first handling it I found myself thinking "its so nice and in such good condition, it would be terrible to use it and possibly damage it. Perhaps I should buy another one to use and keep this one safe". It'll take a force of will to use it without buying another. Sadly I'm not historically good at this as most of my Spydercos have at least one "Safe Queen" duplicate. Its a terrible attitude to have as they're supposed to be used and it gets very expensive very quickly to keep buying things in pairs.

this may make some cry, but if i get a new knife i tend to scratch it on purpose. I wait until im in a fit of carrying passion, and then i use a sharpener to scratch the blade. once its done, its done, and you can feel good about carying it. ymmv
delicrazy: I'll have to try that in future. The harpy should get its first proper use tomorrow but it is already scratched from a diamond file it ended up sharing a pocket with (forgot it was in there)

Aloha all. In regards to what swede said, yes, having a dupe is habit forming. I remember when I got my Walker from Ironstone here on the Big Isle. Couldn't wait to test out the blade geometry and practice some "quick draws"...After a day at work with it, I couldn't stand it any longer and in the drawer it went. Instead of buying a dupe, I got another Spyder that I'd actually use. I ended up buying another Endura...both the Delica and Endura are my main Spyder staples and get their fair share of RDA use.
God will put you over...if you let Him!
