How many movies and television shows have featured Spydercos? I remember the Endura being used in Cliffhanger and the Delica being used in the TV series Millenium. What other films have Spyderco's been used in?

A few others are, Hannibal ( Obviously ). Strange Days, there is a Rescue as well as another right at the end that I can't quite identify. Fight Club, in the scene set in the Police interview room, (I think it's an SS Police)
And I know there are a couple of others, but I can't think right now, but that should get things started

Was the TV series Millenium the move about the Y2K crash?
obi-wan
03-14-2001, 11:37 AM
No, Millenium was a series revolving around a character named Frank Black, an FBI agent. The series revolved around the super-natural and a doomsday type of organisation known as the Millenium group. The series was produced by the people who created the X-Files. In the series, Frank Black carried a Delica for general use.

I also remember seeing a Spyderco used in a movie with Jean-Claude Van Damme with an ice hockey theme. I can't remember the title.
P.S.

The VanDamme movie is "Hard Target." The bad guy uses an Endura which is very visible in a few scenes. I believe the Endura was also used in the movie version of the Dean Kootz book "Mr. Murder."

I saw an espisode of Millenium where Frank Black used a Delica to carve a pumpkin. I think the episode name was "The Curse of Frank Black". This is the first time i've seen a Spyderco on tv or in a movie that wasn't used as an offensive or defensive weapon.

I agree with you Carson. It would be nice to see Spydies and knives in general, used as essential tools in movies. It's ironic how there are people who are quick to condemn knives as horrible instruments of death, but if they use them in violent films, it's ok because it's art.

I saw a Harpy in a movie called Chill Factor, it was used by the bad guy...
Ehh, supposed to be Thorin... : )

There was a Delica used by Oz in Buffy a year or so back to trim wires in a sound system, an engraved Police used by the villain in the movie, "The Client", and a SS scale Police used as a murder weapon on at least one of the old "Murder She Wrote" tv shows with Angela Lansbury. Oh yes, and a SS scale Police was used to, umh, filet a dog in the Steven King movie "Needful Things".

Here is a partial (and very behind) list of movies and tv shows that Spyderco knives have either been in, or to which we've sent knives to the production set for consideration.
Please add to it! I've been lazy 'bout keepin' it up to date. You would be greatly helping me out.

I saw a show on VH-1 called "Strange Frequency". It was made up of a couple shorter shows. In one of them, this guy drove around picking up kids on their way to concerts. In the trunk lid of his car, there was a flip down cover. Behind it was an array of weapons. One of them was a SS Police(I think).

Now, if we could see what knife was used in used in each of the movies listed, we could see if there was a trend in the movie industry as to what they are using....
On the 80's TV show "Airwolf" there was a Spyderco Mariner used by one of the "bad guys" to cut open a bag of a "powdery, illegal substance" (if you get my meaning )

In "The Thin White Line" (Millennium), the Delica is used as a spatula for picking up bloody crime scene evidence. Although one of the killers uses a knife to mutilate victims, it's not a Spyderco.
I just saw a Centofante C50 being used by the Captain in "On the Beach" (new version). He was using it to peel tomatoes.

The evening of May 6th on the Travel Channel there is going to be a show called "Adventure 16 - American Survival" (or something like that). Caught just a brief trailer last week and they were talking about survival gear. A woman opens an Endura and the voice over says "find out all about designer knives". Guess I'll be glued to the tube.
Also on a Travel Channel special last weekend three men were crossing the Australian Outback in a race. An American marathoner had a Remote Release clipped to his belt loop throughout his 40 some odd days surviving off the land. Pretty cool!!!

Was flipping channels last night and came across a scene in what I think was "Boyz n the hood". A fight scene with Cuba Gooding jr and another guy pulls out a SS plain edge mariner. Amazing how many movies and tv shows use Spydercos when you look for them.

In the movie "Point of No Return", Harvey Keitel uses what looked like an Endura as a government assassin. Also, in the book "Freaky Deaky" by Elmore Leonard, a bomb squad detective uses an unspecified Clipit.

Books! Forgot all about books! In the Don Pendelton, executioner series of Mack Boland books, Mack Boland often carries a Spyderco. Carried a Military clipped to a pair of swim trunks in the last one I read.

knifedude / ramlanrafie,
Thanks for the reference. I am "Police" model crazy right now, as I wait for my new s/s serrated model to arrive; currently on order.
After reading your posts this evening, while out getting some videos for my kids I rented "the Client" and just finished watching it. I enjoyed it thoroughly. It's a great movie, and fantastic with the several great shots of Barry the Blade's serrated stainless steel Police model. It looks like it has some kind of fancy engraving on the handle. Must be a custom job, don't you think?

ramlanrafie,
I recall your writing about your Military plain edge...how would you compare your new s/s Police plain edge to it? Different knives I know, but I'm interested in how you see them in comparison to each other.
I am prepared to love both of mine (Police and Military) for their own strengths and use them to complement each other. I fully intend to carry both my plain edge Military and my serrated Police at the same time. Equipped this way, I should be ready for about any cutting task.

Joyce:
I've very curious, in what context did a Spydie appear on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno?
Joyce...
Keith Famie (formerly the chef contestant on Survivor II) uses a Spyderco (a Delica I believe) on his Food Network TV show Keith Famie's Adventures.

Here's one I don't think has been posted before. In Ocean's Eleven in the scene where they go down the elevator shaft when they open the briefcase there is 2 they look like the Wegner. They use them to cut the line after they decend to the bottom of the shaft.

Yesterday I saw a Spyderco Endura (serrated, black handle) in a Dutch TV-serie, called Baantjer. It's about a detective (Baantjer) who solves crimes (in this case a serial killer) in the city of Amsterdam. Very bad acting in my opinion, but very popular in the Netherlands and in Belgium.

I first saw a spidie in a SF movie called "Screamers". As I recall it was a SS SE Endura (or possibly a Police). I never imagined that such knives really exist and I thought this was a special model created for the props by an inspired guy
It also seems to me that in "Fight Club" (with B. Pitt and E. Norton) appears a C25 (or maybe C50) F. Centofante, but I'm not sure.

It seems to me that the SS Police model shows up in movies more than any other single Spyderco model. I've seen it in Training Days, The Client, Jennifer Eight, Fight Club, etc. I saw a SS Mariner used by a villain preparing to attack Lindsay Wagner in a TV movie once too.
The first time I actually remembered seeing a Spyderco knife was when I saw Anaconda in 1996 or 1997. It was a Delica, and I decided I wanted one. I didn't know the name Spyderco, but I received a catalog in the mail from a mail-order knife company and learned the name of the model and Spyderco. Thus began my second obsession with knives.
