i want to buy my first spyderco. i always liked the military, it's big and has g-10 handles, but i also liked the CF police, it looks great. i'd read some others posts and the police isn't among favorites knives.

i want it for general use and self defence. i also liked others models like chinook and starmate.

what knife wold you recommend me? thanks.

The Military is the best for all around use.I just traded for a second one so as to have a spare. The Starmate is also very nice if you can find one.I know a place that does have 1 or 2 PEs left in stock, email me if you want the phone #.

FYI Klamm, Spyderco SFO is still offering the discontinued G10 Police for sale on this site. This might be a better choice for general use than the CF version, though the CF Police is certainly sweet.

I like my CE Starmate. I find the blade of the Police & Military to 'pointy'.

Aloha! General use + defense...of the knives you mentioned: G10 Police, Starmate, Or Mili...

I've had great results with the other legends, Endura&Delica...Plus they're easily replaced should it hit the fan and be seized as evidence...I used to carry my Police but damn if I'd let the police take my Police...also since it was the SS version, it did weigh me down a bit more than I wanted. Choose wisely and practice-practice practice! A lotta guys at my facility fall into the false sense of security thinking that since they own a billion guns they'd be "ready" should anything happen...not so if they don't practice scenarios, reloads, draws...Same applies to ANY defense.

God will put you over...if you let Him!

I recommend the Military. For general use it is just a little more suitable than the CF Police.
Best is to buy them both

Welcome to the Spyderco Forum. Both are great knives, no matter which one you'll choose, it'll serve you well. Since you like the Military more, pick this one first. The Police may follow soon

I agree with Daywalker. The Endura is the understated bigger Spydie. It's not quite as big as the Police or Military, but it's plenty of blade for use or defense.

It can also be typically purchased in SS or FRN for small change (typically 30-40 on Ebay). There were 2 SS CE Endura's in blisterpaks that went for 20.50 apiece yesterday.
