The original Matriarch® was inspired by a request from Spyderco’s South African distributor for a smaller and more economical version of our iconic Civilian® model as a personal-protection tool for women. That concept ultimately evolved into the Matriarch 2, which integrates the Civilian’s aggressive blade shape and Reverse “S” edge profile with the lightweight handle construction of the best-selling Endura® 4. Its fully serrated SpyderEdge™ blade is hollow ground from VG-10 stainless steel blade to offer extreme cutting performance. This expression of the design includes both a fully accessible Trademark Round Hole™ for one-handed manual opening with either hand and an Emerson Opener. Also known as a “wave,” this integral hook on the spine of the blade hooks on the lip of the pocket when the knife is drawn from tip-up carry, automatically deploying the blade faster than any other method. The lightweight handle of this knife is injection molded from fiberglass-reinforced nylon (FRN) and includes a Bi-Directional Texture™ pattern for a secure grip. It also includes nested, skeletonized stainless steel liners, a high-strength back lock mechanism, and a fully configurable four-position pocket clip. The Matriarch 2 Emerson Opener is available in two versions—one with a satin finished-blade and an all-black version with a titanium carbonitride (TiCN) blade coating and matching black-coated hardware.
